Oh my god, I have a Tumblr.I blame this entirely on Teen Wolf, which happened to me in the beginning of February. Avengers, last summer, took me from reading fic on LJ to reading on AO3; TW appears to be taking me from connecting with people on LJ to doing it on tumblr ( Read more... )

The only way you can comment on tumblr is to reblog and add your thoughts at the bottom. Which I find endlessly frustrating, because your feed is soon seventeen reblogs of the same post so people can have a conversation. The other option - even more frustrating - is to send a message, which you do in the roundabout way of 'asking' (I know :/) and once you've sent it, it vanishes. Same for replying - I replied to an ask with some info I needed in it, and as soon as I'd hit reply, the original ask just disappeared. So tedious, particularly if you always reply privately like I do ( ... )

This is what I mean about not understanding it! You left me a note over there and

1) how did you do that? What did you click?

and 2) how do I respond to it?

Also, I shouldn't even be sitting here as am late leaving for work, eep. I'll be back to your comment here later.

Oooh! On your post, there's a little speech bubble. I clicked that. I've noticed not all posts have them though, so you might not see them on everything on your dash. And I have no idea how to reply to it, because no one ever leaves me any, I've not had to work it out yet ;)

Go go go!! I hope you're not too late.

I have so much hate for tumblr right now I can't even. I've spent the last two hours looking for the speech bubble, and it's not there. I've googled the shit out of it, and installed missing e and I just finally was able to reply to your reply but it simply put it all in a new text post, so I promptly deleted it because that just made a new post to everyone following my tumblr. Because I was able to see a speech bubble hiding under the ignore bubble! And now I can't find that again, and that was to reply to your reply, not even just how to reply in the first place to someone else's post.

Ii had to go eat a bowl full of brownie mix because I'm so frustrated. *headdesk*

I saw it briefly, we must have been on at the same time! You can never reply just to me, this is what I get cross about - even when I "reply" to your post, your followers will see it in the notes, and any conversation we have shows up in everyone else's dash too. It's very clunky as far as a social media platform goes. The speech bubble could be hiding and reapparing because tumblr refuses to play nice with mising e (another reason I hate it - Jeremy Cutler's ideas were brilliant and that add on added SO MUCH functionality to the site, but instead of working with him, they purposely update in ways that will break missing e, it's very school playground of them ( ... )

I just saw the speech bubble to leave a note on a post for the first time! Why just on that post? I have no idea. And despite being ale to make that reply to you (and the world) last night, I couldn't figure out how I did it in order to do it again. I still can't. ARGH. I agree, the platform sucks. And yet, it's caught on. Someone else went on a rant here or on my DW, not sure, about all the things wrong with tumblr in terms of connection and lack of depth, and I agreed with every word.

But it's kinda fun, too. As long as I have LJ to have real conversations on.

Yeah, agreed. I have to ignore all the shallowness and wank that goes on, and grit my teeth about the idiocy of people, but at the end of the day, I want pretty pictures. I'll use and abuse it for pretty pictures, and I'll keep lj for actually interacting with people.
