A New Day- For the September-October Challenge at Brokeback Drabbles- Picture Prompts
Ennis Del Mar was driving home at six a.m., a soft smile on his face. The peace of the landscape passing by his car window seemed to seep into his psyche, and he felt surprisingly alert, considering how little sleep he’d gotten the night before.
The sun was a pink-red ball just above the horizon, and there were low-flying birds in the sky.
A good morning, he thought, as he pulled into his driveway. And as he turned off the engine, his phone chirped at him that he had a new text message.
Ten hours earlier
Ennis arrived at the restaurant where he was meeting with a group of community activists who were trying to establish an AIDS prevention program for the local high schools. He’d been asked to participate because he was a pediatrician specializing in adolescent medicine, and even though he’d had a long day, he thought it was a worthwhile project and was willing to give his evening to it.
It was a group of nine, two married couples, some women and men on their own. He was introduced around, trying to remember the names and what skills each person was bringing to the table. But when a good looking man his own age gave him a firm handshake and said, “Jack Twist,” he knew he wouldn’t be having any trouble remembering this one.
Eight hours earlier
It had been a good meeting, and the project was really rolling. The meeting had been enlivened for Ennis by the fact that Jack Twist was engaging in a world-class flirtation with him. Jack’s sidelong glances, sweeping eyelashes, and soft voice were so seductive that Ennis had trouble concentrating on the business at hand.
Ennis learned that Jack was a high school math teacher, so he figured it would be easy enough to find him. But he was so attracted that he hoped he could make something happen that night. At the very least, he could give it a shot.
When the meeting broke up, Ennis hung back a little with Jack in the flurry of handshakes and good-byes. He said softly enough that no one else could hear, “You single?”
Jack smiled, and said simply, “Yes.”
“You want to get a coffee sometime?”
“Sure,” Jack said easily. “But for tonight, I just want to have sex with you.”
“You’ve got a deal,” Ennis answered. “Your place or mine?”
“I’m five minutes away,” Jack said, a wicked gleam in his eye.
“Your place it is.”
Seven hours earlier
The sex had been fantastic, Jack pulling Ennis up on his hands and knees and fucking him so hard he knew he’d be walking with a hitch the next day. And it had been oh so worth it.
They were lying in Jack’s bed, sweaty and sated, Jack on his back with Ennis pulled up against his chest. Jack was running his fingers through Ennis’s hair, humming a little.
Ennis tilted his head up to look at Jack, a half smile on his face. “Happy?” he said.
“Yeah,” Jack said.
“Me, too.”
Six hours earlier
Round Two started when Ennis woke up to soft kisses moving down his chest, then the feeling of Jack’s tongue circling around his belly button. He instinctively reached down to put his hands in Jack’s hair, combing through the thick strands.
He was already starting to harden from the kisses, but when Jack licked a long stripe up the inside of one thigh, his dick leaped to attention.
He was just awake enough to know that they shouldn’t have oral sex without a condom, and he didn’t want to make the effort to look for another one, so he said, “Jack.” Jack just moved his mouth to the other thigh, nuzzling along the inside of his thigh. Ennis tugged lightly at Jack’s hair, saying, “C’mere. Wanna kiss you.”
They’d already established that Jack liked kissing, so he moved up once he registered Ennis’s invitation. He crawled up Ennis’s body and straddled him, and they kissed deep and strong.
“Wait, want to be able to see,” Ennis said, and he reached for the lamp on the bedside table. With the soft light on, he could see Jack, all tousled hair and pupils blown wide. He had to take a steadying breath, and then he positioned their bodies so that they were both on their sides, looking into each other’s eyes. “Going to make you feel so good,” Ennis promised, rubbing his thumb over the head of Jack’s dick.
Jack moaned, and Ennis moved his hand back to Jack’s shaft, pumping it and loving how the soft skin moved over the hardness. “Put your hand on me,” he whispered, and Jack did it eagerly. They jerked each other off, looking their fill.
One hour earlier
Ennis had rounds at the hospital early in the morning, so he’d set the alarm on his phone and shoved it under his pillow after he’d cleaned up from their lovemaking. He got up quietly, knowing he had to get home and get showered and changed before his work day started.
He turned on the light in the bathroom to give himself enough light to get dressed, and he could see Jack, looking loose-limbed and vulnerable in sleep. He didn’t want to wake him, but he didn’t want to leave without saying any sort of goodbye, so he ran his index finger gently over Jack’s cheekbone, and kissed his hair very lightly.
He left a note on the sink in the bathroom, his phone number and the words, “Don’t forget me.”
At home
Ennis opened the text, reading it with a goofy grin on his face. It read, “I won’t.”
Before he got out of the car, he texted back, “Dinner tonight?”
A very good morning, he reflected. Maybe even the start of a new life.
