Today, when it was sports session, an NSF approached me.
"Sergeant.. erm.. can I have a word with you?"
"Sure~"
And off we went into a secluded area. Please don't think dirty =_=
"Sergeant, I got a problem... My friends and colleagues seem to ignore me, no matter what I say or do. Is there something wrong with me?"
Being his IC at times, I know how his personality is. I was kinda surprised he approached me for advice, but maybe I exuded the 'friendly-neighborhood-sergeant' aura.. O_O
Me - "Tell me, what do you talk to them about?"
NSF - "I like IT, I like to talk about IT stuff and whatnot. I enjoy talking about politics too!"
Me - "How do the rest respond to you?"
NSF - "They kinda ignore me... not interested in my jokes. Say that my jokes are cold and stuff..."
Me - "What kind of jokes do you make?"
NSF - "IT jokes? Like how a RAM is comparable to a brain and stuff..."
Bingo... And oddly enough, it sounds like a certain someone I know too well.
Me - "Sometimes... you gotta know your audience. If your audience is not into IT, talking IT to them won't help. They won't be able to catch your drift, much less your jokes."
NSF - "How should I go about it?"
Me - "Know your audience. Simple as that. If you know they like games, talk game with them."
At the end of the day, he thanked me. As he walked off, I can't help but feel that what I've said can be applied to a certain someone who has only been spamming his LJ with complaints but always got no balls to come tell us in the face.
But I know that guy all too well. Well known for being stubborn, I could guess that even after he read my entry, he wouldn't do anything to change his situation. Cause if he's going to stay like this, good game to him.
All in all, I'm glad a 19-year-old NSF can take advice much better than him. Youths these days are not as bad as we envision them to be. Good luck to you kiddo ^^
