Celebrating the arrival of the AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED~! ^^
Was actually intending to get the older version, but Nikon Singapore has no more stock I beilieve... T_T
Testing proves that Nikon doesn't f**k when it comes to their Micro-series of lenses. VERY VERY SHARP for portraiture.. To the OMG-I-can-see-the-inside-of-your-facial-pores kind of extent...
But how does it fare in real macro work?
choumajin and me headed over to Botanic Gardens for a tryout shoot. Here are the results~
Lolz~ An angry ant! Thanks to
choumajin for constantly provoking the fella~ ^^
Saw this little fella dangling in the air on a single thread. Helped him/her onto a leaf and it started to munch a little. Made a good subject out of it. The full-res photo is blurred. Wind blew on the leaf it was on and moved the head area out of focus.. =_=
Managed to get the centre in focus while the rest of the petals are bathed in generous bokeh. This is actually shot in f5.6~ But the depth of field is still so ultra thin.
Found this little flower arrangement just right next to a pond and felt that it has a really unique look about it. I had to use a high f-number (forgot which one le.. =_=) and pump up the ISO to get this shot. It was starting to get windy and I had to try a couple of times before I got this one, which is barely satisfactory for me. =(
All in all, the lens is a gem. With its high magnification ration and brilliant optics, even
choumajin was moved by the images produced. But the tryout has ascertained one thing though.. I would prefer to do macro work in a controlled environment. No winds to sway your subject and the ability to control lighting are some of the quirks I look forward to having.
And I'm beginning to fall in love with Manual mode and focusing ever since the last night photography trip~ ^^ But I gota work harder at it.. Some photos seems sharp to me during focusing but came out not too satisfactory.. =(
Ok~ Now to plan out a schedule of what to shoot~ XD XD
