I try to lead a stress free day, and this is what happens.

Apr 30, 2007 21:15

I woke up this morning with every intention of taking it easy. not rushing around, just doing things in a nice leisurely way, as to not stress myself out first thing, because that seems like a bad way to start out the day.

so, I took a shower, brushed my teeth, made my lunch, got dressed, looked at the clock, and it was 8:54. two minutes to get outside for the latest bus that I've taken to work. oops.

figuring that there would be another bus soon, I took my time walking out the door (as I'd normally be running down the stairs) and down the street; saw the 8:56 bus already down past the stoplight and heading into town. I got to the bus stop, and realized that the next bus wouldn't come for another 20 minutes. oops.

so, I tried to enjoy just sitting in the sunlight, drinking my almond soda (aka breakfast), and realized that I'd forgotten my sunglasses at my parents' house yesterday afternoon. and I actually needed them today; it was really bright out this morning. oops.

tried to keep my mind off of things by watching the people walking past, the people with their coffee, the guy with the little girl in the pink jacket. noticed that I had forgotten my work notebook (this little orange spiral that I write my daily work activities and notes into) in my crochet bag at home; apparently I'd put it in there last night, instead of in my purse. and, to make matters worse, I'd already spent 15 minutes waiting at the bus stop, and wouldn't have time to go back to get it. double oops.

but, reminded myself that it was okay, because I could just write my work notes on a separate piece of paper, and paste it into my work notebook later.

the bus came, and I got on - on my way.

got into downtown on the 16, got off at the library (where the bus turns). saw another bus coming down the street that would take me further down 5th ave, toward where the columbia tower is (where I can catch a shuttle up to beacon hill that comes every 30 minutes), or perhaps all the way to 5th and jackson (where I can catch a shuttle up to beacon hill that comes every 10 minutes). got on the bus, which wasn't one that would go all the way to jackson, so I got off at the columbia tower. 4 minutes after the shuttle had left for beacon hill, it's 9:29 now. oops.

another bus was coming down the street, one that would take me to jackson. got on that bus. the driver was gunning it down the hill, so I thought that perhaps I'd be able to make the 9:40 shuttle from jackson up to beacon hill. we hit the last stop light, and I see a route 36 bus (also goes up to beacon hill), and think that perhaps I can make it. it's 9:38. after the bus that I was on makes it through the stoplight, I run back toward the intersection to see if I can catch the 36, but no dice. it's already heading through the intersection. oops.

so, I walk toward where the shuttles leave, and the 9:40 shuttle is already around the corner, the driver unknown to me, so he doesn't stop to let me on. oops.

since I now have 10 minutes to wait, until the 9:50 shuttle, I run across the street to buy a croissant/cookie at specialty's to make myself feel better, and I finally make it into work at 9:55. ugh.

needless to say, I still had a decent day at work. but. the runaround that I had in the morning really makes me want to reconsider riding the bus to work. I hate the idea of having to drive somewhere that I CAN reach by public/amazon transportation for free, but when it takes me an hour to get to work when it'd only take me 20 minutes or less to drive, it's really trying. but if I drove, I'd have to pay for parking. and then find another parking spot when I got home. if I hadn't had my laptop with me, I probably would could have walked it in about an hour, as it's only about 4 and a half miles, maybe 5. but I had too much stuff to want to try walking today.

I'm trying though. trying to save money and gas by taking public transportation. (since gas is so freaking expensive now anyway!)

but I guess that a leisurely commute and a quick commute do not go hand in hand with public transportation. it's one or the other (if you're lucky), and sometimes neither. (sigh)

work, stress, metro, (sigh)
