My thoughts on Prop 8.

The "YES on Prop 8" ads are grossly deceitful and malicious. They are leading people to believe that if this proposition does not pass, that children will be taught about gay marriage in school. That is absolutely incorrect and you are fucking stupid if you believe that. Churches will NOT lose their tax-exempt status for not performing gay marriage ceremonies. This has nothing to do with religion; it has everything to do with basic human rights. The religious zealots are out in full fucking force with this one, pushing their religious beliefs and ideals upon everyone else with ferocious inaccuracy.

Proposition 8 is all about hatred, ignorance and intolerance. People are saying "well, what about the sanctity of marriage?" What sanctity are we talking about exactly? The divorce rate in this country is over 50%. Straight people get married, cheat on each other, get divorced, lather, rinse, and repeat. Where is the fucking sanctity in that? If we're not going to allow gays to get married because of that fact, then why are straight people allowed to remarry after they've been divorced? Why do we allow celebrities to get married at all? They make a mockery out of it.

What is so wrong with two people in love getting married? How will it affect anyone else's marriage or life for that matter? Yes, gays will still have "civil unions" but it is not the same thing. So straight people can get married and gay people can have a “civil unions.” That is considered “separate but equal." "Separate but equal" has been deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Why should this be any different?

How would you feel if you could not marry the love of your life because you have blue eyes and they have brown eyes? Because you are black and they are white? Because you are Catholic and he is Jewish? Because you represent Queens and she was raised out in Brooklyn?

If someone can give me a valid example of how it would personally affect you if two gay people got married, then I will gladly shut the fuck up.
