I do definitely agree on the idea of having as few rules as possible. The more rules you have the more people will fear saying something, even if it doesn't violate the rules. Again, some of the Bleach forums try to keep the peace, but they end up having rules I wonder if I'm breaking. Then there's always the special cases who seem to get a million warnings before they're (temporarily) booted.
I think my reference previously to keeping out the riff raff was more concerning with making sure people don't feed into it. It's just more of a common sense kind of thing, but it gets complicated when you try to invoke a common sense or golden rule kind of a set up, because what's apparent to some people isn't apparent to others.
The only thing at concerns me is the shipping half. Maybe it's just me losing my faith in people being able to be decent about this sort of thing, but there does tend to be a mutual tendency on both sides of the "main ships" to kinda gloat that a certain moment fails to meet fan expectations. I think a good shipping rule would be: talk about your ship, or if you're going to talk about an opposing one, be constructive and listen to what they have to say. If it gets to hairy, just agree to disagree. I think if people come at it without feeling like they have to win or prove that their ship is better, it may be easier to discuss things most people don't want to discuss.
I would also love maybe a weekly (or bi-weekly) character discussion. The character comms are generally pretty dead or a little too shippy and mostly filled with fanwork, and there are so many great characters in this story to discuss or even just learn about without having to profess your love for them. I don't like Gin like a lot of the fangirls do, but I'll be damned if he isn't one interesting guy. (Same thing goes for Tousen after the Pendulum Arc.)

As long as people are being polite, they can defend their moonbat theories till the cows come home, and people are free to debunk you with canon evidence. I did plan to make a shipper courtesy guideline in the profile.

Yep.
I also like the idea of character discussion. For a show with as long a cast line-up as Bleach, this could work well, especially if (like me) you don't particularly feel like joining over 9000 comms to make a post when you have no intension of contributing anything else. Most of the characters/ship comms are best suited for finding fanfics/art for your favorite characters, but not so much discussion.
I haven't even thought of a name for the place. Any suggestions?
It's actually ridiculous how many Bleach communities there are and they're all dedicated to some pairing or another. It's quite depressing when I think about it.
So this is going to be great, because it'll prove that there doesn't have to be pairing biases to enjoy an awesome manga series. :D

Like I mentioned to Bitter_tea, the best solution is just to take a neutral position on shipping, welcome everyone and toss out the idiots that either can't or don't get it.
I was thinking burichi would be a good name since it's the roman character translation of the katakana for the title, but I'm sure it's probably taken. Unless you were to extend the vowels like it says you should then it'd be buriichii, but that looks bad.
senkaimon would be okay. It's not too confusing or hard to spell, and with it being the opening between the human world and the SS there could be some kind of symbolic nature to it.
Just as long it's not something like The Shinigami's Lounge...
I also do graphics and layout work, so if wanted, I can throw something together this weekend. I could at least tweak a ready-made layout and add a header for the time being.
(I can't believe I haven't friended you yet with all this talking going on. I admit, I'm lazy...)

So is there anything else that you need help with or that you feel I should know about?

As tomorrow's my day off from work, I'll set the comm up, list a few rules, and we can tweak the general guidelines before the Grand Opening.
:)
