since last year i've been reading blogs, hearing comments, getting texts on why there wasn't any rockestra 3 last year. some even thought there ain't gonna be any rockestra anymore.
once and for all, here's the real score.
though it may seem that the previous rockestra installments turned out well, it actually didn't. the audience turnout was great, don't get me wrong. the failures were more internal.
rockestra was conceived with certain goals:
- to present the orchestra in a more palatable way for the younger generation
- to give local acts a chance to play with a full symphony orchestra
- to create profit to fund the manila symphony orchestra's operations
guess what, the last goal didn't even reach an "at least" point.
rockestra, break even lang. rockestra 2, sobrang lugi. pero rockestra 2 had a larger turnout? yes it did, pero yun lang. masaya ako na we pulled off both concerts, quite well i must say. pero it's not just about the bands, it's not just about me. i've been with the mso since it started. sobrang bilib ko sa mga members, ang tibay nila. kahit na ganong kahirap, di sila bumibitaw. umabot nga kami sa point a few years back when each of us was just getting a thousand bucks as allowance. pero no one gave up. i knew rockestra would be a good way to generate funds, funds to take care of the members who are day in day out working hard to be able to play well but don't really get the recognition and compensation due to them.
basta kinalabasan, walang rockestra last year coz i didn't want to. it may sound selfish pero i wouldn't want things to get worse for the mso, especially if that internal problem fixed, or better yet replaced. sobrang nakakahinayang lang talaga. sobra. sobra. sobra.
will there still be a rockestra?
YES.
but i need help.
this time i want to prove to the mso that we can reach that 3rd goal. that things will get better.
but again i need help. really big help.
after all, r3 is the last dance.
