variety

I had to log in again since it's been so long since I last wrote. It's raining now and will probably snow tonight. We had a warm September. I just shut down the garden today. All the broccoli and summer and winter squash are now in the freezer or garage. I did leave some beets and carrots, spinach and lettuce in the garden to deal with later when it warms up again. And we're going to get brussel sprouts this year!

Monte transplanted all the tomato bushes with their walls of water into the greenhouse grapevine bed. We're going to try that and see how long into the winter the tomatoes last. In their place outside, Monte's building a coldframe. Since it's on the south side of the greenhouse, we're going to see if salad stuff can grow through the winter. We've always talked of doing it, but not tried yet.

I'm finishing up a 2x3' wet and needle process felted picture for the next art gallery showing season at our church. Many people want to see the process, so we're having an art day a Saturday in November with three of us artists demonstrating, and letting people try. It's been fun to try pastels with one of our artists. A bronze sculptor is showing us his art process this month. And too, jewelry. I might get back into batic in the future. Dawson is getting 10 of his best photos ready for this next seasons' showing.

Been reading a variety. Finished Eugene Peterson's "Christ Plays in 10,ooo places". Almost done with an old book by Elizabeth Goudge called "Green Dolphin Street", and a book of essays, "Grace is Where I Live", by John Leax. Started "The Kite Runner" and another, "Woman, where are you?" Just got Jazz like Blue or Blue like Jazz, I'm anxious to read too. But the books on tape ... I've gone on author binges. It's so nice to have story to listen to while weeding, freezing, sewing, cooking, doing laundry, cleaning... I've been on a murder mystery binge for probably a year or so. Finished all of William X Kienzel (?sp), where I learned alot of Catholic history, especially how some feel after Vatican II. Recently been going between Laurie R King (especially her Mary Russell {with Sherlock Holmes} series), and PD James with his Adam Delglish investigator. Some of his have been made into movies, as has Brother Cadfel mysteries by a Ellis. Sarah, I hear Lauren Winter has a new book out.

Monte and me redrywalled and painted the living room (Parlor). Can't do the entryway yet because him and Dawson are getting ready to leave for a couple weeks with geology again. (We have to fix the chicken's water container so I don't break my neck or back again.) I helped a friend paint alot of her house- taupe, greens and a dark purple. Color is so fun. And of course I have to paint all my ceilings color too! So now the guest room and parlor are redone.

Went on a sewing binge the last time Monte and Dawson were gone. Will do some more this time around. But I'm going to start writing, now that the weather is changing. Evenings I knit alot, so watch movies. I'm finishing up a baby jumper for our neighbor. Also picked up a sweater I haven't worked on for awhile. And ... a take-along project, is baby booties (not for anyone in our near family, yet!). There are about 15 gals in MOPS going to have babies this season.

I'm involved with the film ministry at church. We usually show movies during the summer but are going to do some this winter too. Some of us preview movies and develop questions for discussions after the movies. Today, movies are art, that are great places to talk to people from. Today's movies are asking great questions, and show where the hunger lies.

I'm also involved with the Women's Ministry, which MOPS falls under. Some of this seems to have begun with doing Romancing Your Child's Heart seminars and classes. But I've got a heart for, and been thrown in with, all these young moms. I do a devotional in the MOPS newsletter called "Karey's Korner". At the women's ministry once a month brunches, I help plan the decor. I've grown to see how important imagry and the visual are, along with whatever the speaker's subject is. I'm the speaker at the November brunch.

It seems this whole summer has been more of plain journaling, which isn't my norm. But as I said back in June with Summer Solstice and John the Baptist Day, summer is different with lots of external outside play. And once I officially start writing on my books this winter, it'll be interesting to see how much I write here.
