Josh didn’t listen to the radio anymore; he couldn’t force himself to turn the dial. In fact he didn’t listen to much music in general, especially those old CD’s he had worn thin throughout the years. If he turned the dial and broke the general ‘no music’ rule he would hear it. He would hear that song that would make his eyes water and soul ache. He would hear that familiar voice that could ask him anything, and he would go against the world to do it.
He was driving a friend home and she had always had an independent soul- meaning she felt no remorse when it came to thrusting her opinions onto others. This included him. “You know, I’ve noticed you’re not really into music. Come on man, you need to be up with the times. I know the perfect station to start with!” She broke that one rule and turned the radio on, and Josh’s heart broke all over again.
Staring to the moon, I wonder if your gaze is there too
Lost in eternity, my thoughts about you
Hiding in the wake of a dream
The music faded out, signaling the end of the song. A new one started up, and Josh was griping the steering wheel for dear life as his friend continued to talk. “Oh, too bad that was the end- I love that song! Oh well, might as well start your musical education now. That was the new one by Drake Parker, he’s really cool. I didn’t like his stuff at first ‘cause I though it was too mainstream but then actually listened to the lyrics, it’s rather tragic really…” she went on from there about a few other groups that he should ‘get caught up on’ but the only thing going through his mind was his dreams of the past.
