Forgotten Pulitzers

Lamb in his Bosom by Caroline Miller
(Harper, 1933)

The Able McLaughlins by Margaret Wilson
(Grosset & Dunlap, 1933)

Now in November by Josephine W. Johnson
(Simon & Schuster, 1934)

The Keepers of the House by Shirley Ann Grau
(Knopf, 1964)

Pulitzer winners that fade into obscurity.  I learned about the above forgotten Pulitzer winners from an Abebooks email (love when spam is educational!)  I scurried over to my copy of Elaine Showalter's A Jury of her Peers: American Woman Writers from Anne Bradstreet to Annie Proulx expecting to learn something about each of these authors and, disappointingly, there's no sign of them in there.  Given that I'm about to prepare a review of Jury of Her Peers, this is not a good sign.  Or is it?  I decided to order these books and find out for myself if they deserve to sink into obscurity.  Stay tuned for the results ....
