Fashions

I spent part of this long weekend browsing the latest fsshions in the shops - the part of the weekend where my arm didn't feel like it was going to fall off. This is the first intense looking at clothing (16 pounds to goal!) I've done in over two years, and I've concluded I'm a Lands End Woman.

Lovely clothes out there, but clothes I wouldn't wear anywhere. A lot of styles are too much for work - too dressy for a casual work environment, too easily wrinkled, too fussy, too expensive.

Ponchos were everywhere. I've lived through that before. Didn't like 'em then, don't like 'em now. Does anyone over 30 wear 'em?

Saw a beautiful deep red Irish knit wool sweater at an Irish shop in one of the malls. A red color I love. But I wasn't going to pay $130 for it. Then I went to the Not Quite Perfect Store downtown and saw a cotton sweater in nearly the same shade of read with the cable knit pattern I love at the wonderful price of $25 - an overstock from last winter. It's in my bottom drawer now.

Walked up and down State Street for the first time in ages. Found three of the used book stores that used to be on and off the street gone. One has folded itself back into the other used book store owned by the same people, and residing in a different location. But two are gone, gone, gone, including one I knew was pretty successful. But I had heard the guy was thinking of closing the store. Lots of restaurants have changed (again), and most of the shops are geared to college students. Heck, all of the clothing stores are. College kids with money. The Puzzlebox is gone. I'm shocked by that. I wonder if it's somewhere else? It's been around since I was in college. I still remember the window they did right before an Academy award show - all the stuffed bears in the shop in formal attire. Really cute.
