Trip photos ... #5

Yeah. So what the hell, I'll do them all. Then you can browse at your leisure and I don't need to stress about remembering to upload them in stages! I have this book to finish writing, you see ...

Can't recall which city this was ... but I was totally entranced by the light/shade and mystery of this one.

The Grand Canal, major highway of Venice.

So Heidelberg castle is amazingly cool, with a whole frieze of inebriated lion faces on the outside of the chamber that housed the enormous wine barrel from which the staff were paid. That's where the financial term 'liquid assets' comes from, by the way!

There's an amazing library inside Siena's duomo, with incredible frescoes and these amazing illuminated manuscripts. So incredibly beautiful, the room literally stopped my breathing when I walked in.

Extraordinary differences in townships, thanks to the different geographies. Germany vs Tuscany is amazing. This is Germany -- the medieval town of Miltenberg.

So, the inside of St Mark's basilica in Venice is wall to wall to ceiling covered in this spectacular glass mosaic work. No photos inside, but this example outside gives you an idea.

The Bay of Naples is so gorgeous, and the Isle of Capris so alluring ...

Like Cologne, very little remains of medieval Nuremberg. This is a tiny part, and beautiful. Totally different sensations standing where Hitler stood, reviewing his enormous rallies. I didn't photo there. It felt wrong. A dark, terrible place.
