Paul Haines, the work

So here's the gnarly thing. I admired the hell out of Paul as a writer, but I couldn't read his stuff. Too brtual, too raw, for me. He never minded, bless 'im. But that doesn't mean you won't like his incredibly powerful fiction.

You can find out more about it here.

It is interesting to hear you say something is too brutal. Sometimes the things you write cause me to imagine scenes so colorfully awful that I'm a tad revolted.

I've had to stop reading The Sword of Truth series midway through the second book because the amount of cruel whatnot was just beyond my ability to bare.

Also, The Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin... Read the first three books, but really, the story just kept getting more miserable. In that case, it wasn't really the brutality of any scene that was bothering me, but the fact that it was so depressing and never let up.

In any event, sink me Karen, you're my favorite author, not even second to Steven Brust who I also admire dearly. Third I'd put Carol Berg, even though sometimes her books leave me a bit irksome at her for making me trudge with the main character through so much depression.

You may be sometimes a bit of a slumskemblendy wench, but your writing is absolutely breathtakingly spectacular.

So pleased you're enjoying the work! Oddly enough, writing brutal stuff myself is a different experience from reading it elsewhere. Dunno why, but there you go.
