I thought about posting a picture of my knees but I was too lazy.
Hubby and I were walking to the store. Our area is lovely with lots of trees, trees with shallow roots that lift the sidewalk. The city repairs this by putting asphalt to smooth the section of lifted sidewalk. I was wearing nice low walking shoes that I've had for years. Oops, the city had missed a section of sidewalk that had raised again.
I still remember the feeling like a movie, slow motion falling, knowing it was gonna hurt and I couldn't stop. I went knees then flat on my face. I lay there for a few seconds doing a damage check. Meanwhile my husband is asking if I'm OK, repeatedly since I wasn't saying anything. Little by little I realized nothing was broken so I sat up, reassuring husband that I was OK.
Then I tell him to get my cell phone out of my purse. He looks confused so I repeat myself. "DO YOU WANT ME TO CALL 911?" Poor panicked husband. I inform him that no, I don't need help, just take a picture of the sidewalk and my knees with the torn jeans. I haven't filed the form with the city, and I may not, but I have six months. No permanent damage except a new scar, but it really hurt.
I get up, we continue to the store, but we had to turn around because I felt shocky and dizzy. Actually I think he was shockier than I was :) Spent the weekend laying on the couch with medicine on knees that looked kinda like ground meat. They're in the final stages of healing, but damn they hurt for about ten days.
