Thanksgiving Eve, and a Solemn Anniversary

Nov 23, 2016 18:36

The weather is gloomy, damp and cold: typical November, in fact. It's been a very strange and stressful year, filled with crushed hopes, smashed dreams, bouts of sickness, injury, and now, just plain old depression--weather-induced, stress-related, but there it is. Also, my car may have developed a transmission leak...

My plans for the winter: lay low, sort out the house, the car, the paperwork, and try to get some renovation work done. I'm not going for anything else. Plus keep up the work. I must be demented.

Today I met and old friend for the first time. We had corresponded by website message board for 15 years, at least. She was in the area and I drove out to meet for lunch. Now I have a face to go with the name.

6:30 PM and it's black as pitch outside. I expect the rain will start freezing. I should be glad that the weather is behaving, except nobody wants November weather. We had 70F on November 18th, and snow on the ground (that stuck) on the 20th. That abrupt change has never happened in my memory, here or in New England. But the switch is firmly on November/winter/ugly, and will stay there for the next 4 months.

It's good weather for what I plan to do, surely.
