Character you’d like as your child.
I want to be a parent one day. I hope I can bring considerate, responsible individuals into the world, people that I love that are my family. That said, it is dangerous to assume that one will be a good parent; parenting is difficult and it is not a game. So when I (probably too seriously) address this question, I'm asking myself, "Who would I like to have raised? Who could I be the biggest benefit to?" because their lives would then change their lives accordingly. That's the problem; if I raised them, they would be different people. 50% genetics, but 50% environment; they'd be different. Can you imagine Orihime raised as my child? My god, she would be a completely different fucking person.
Who could I be good for? Me, young and stupid and with three years of school left; who would I be more of a blessing for than a curse?
Oh, Hisana. When I first read Bleach, I reacted very harshly to her; I had a lot of trouble sympathizing with a girl who abandoned her baby sister to die. It's one of those things that I think I have gotten over; after all, the protagonist of The Kitchen God's Wife does the same thing (basically) and I forgave her.
It took me to thinking like this: if you have done the unforgiveable, what can you do after that? After you have committed a sin that is one of the worst things you can do, what do you do after? Do you commit more, because it makes no difference now, for you are condemned? Or do you attempt to atone in a fruitless attempt to gain a forgiveness you may never obtain?
Hisana tries her best for the rest of her life to try to find her sister again. It was not for self-serving reasons - Hisana clearly never dreamed of asking for forgiveness (though Rukia would have given it) or for hoping to restore the relationship between herself and her sister. Hisana tries to repair her mistakes not because she can be forgiven; even though there is almost no chance her sister lives, even though it surely contributes to her death, she continued to search because that is the best thing she can do and she will accept nothing less than that.
How sad that such a girl was condemned to that life, the person who worked as hard as she could until she died and never forgave herself for a sin that was ultimately the fault of the society around her. A child cannot be expected to raise a child, and yet that was the fate handed out to her that day. Do I think too much of myself when I think that I would be an improvement? Maybe, and maybe it is no great thing to think that I can do better than Rukongai did for her, but... yes, Hisana.
