Ten Years Later: 9/11

Sep 11, 2011 09:59

I was working at a Canadian mall (the kind with escalators, shoe stores and anchored on either side by SEARS and The Bay). My job at the time was at the mall bookstore, and I knew a fair amount of people who worked at the mall, especially at the restaurant where I would often go after work to relax, have a Guinness, and wait for the bus.

I don't remember exactly what happened, how I heard about the plane striking the first tower, but I remember standing in the restaurant by the bar's TV staring up at the footage. People were gathered around me not saying anything. The sun was shining. It was eerie.

Here is my post from a few days after the attack:

I was at work when I heard about the planes crashing into the World Trade
Center. Ann told me when she arrived. I went to East Side Marios to
watch the TV. It's been so surreal...as everyone on TV agrees. It's like
a movie..."It's like the movie Independence Day."

I have nothing to say. Two days later and I still feel disbelief that it happened at all.

2,752 victims. Here is a memorial.
