Why agents are worth 15%
The Pikes Peak list serve alerted me to this most excellent post by a "recovering editorial assistant." "It's called Why you should never submit unagented to publishing companies, and it lays out the reasons very clearly. While I would not take it as an absolute rule, I think she makes an excellent case for always trying your level best to get the agent first.
