The professor is the only friend I have who writes "I shall," as in, "I shall be glowing in the dark next."
It sounds perfectly charming when she writes that, and I hope she'll keep doing it. It's just more perfect English than most English speakers use. Almost the only time I ever use "shall" is in the deliberately, slightly humourously formal phrase "shall we dance?"
