Yes, it is VERY worrisome. What's really worrisome as well is what no one is talking about - that there are 2 GE-built (same as Fukishima) nuclear reactors only 10 miles from the epicenter, built to withstand 5.9-6.1. While they may have withstood the quake, what about structural weakening considering Hurricane Irene was coming? Considering that their containment is designed to protect THE REACTOR from the elements, but is essentially cement, and not a containment field to protect humans? Hmmmm...And so it goes..... Positive thoughts for all in the area!

I'm actually much more concerned about two other nuclear reactors, both in California: Diablo Canyon - which could impact the central valley of CA, thereby impacting 25% of the food source of the U.S., and San Onofre (sp?) (which is about 100 yards from the beach in southern CA.) Yes, how may ways is this wrong?

Heard something interesting yesterday. It's really NOT green energy, because as global warming continues, the energy needed to cool the water - to continue cooling the rods - will go up, as the ambient water temp is too high, right at the same time when energy consumption is huge elsewhere, i.e. air conditioners, etc. Something I hadn't considered. Then again, I never considered them "green" to begin. Three Mile Island is still used in PR classes as a classic example of an utter PR disaster, and how NOT to behave in a crisis communication situation. Fingers Crossed the BIG ONE doesn't take us all down. I'm not being flip. My friends and family are still in L.A.

What REALLY ticks me off is that it took about 30 minutes for some relious nutter to (of course) say that this natural diaster was God's will against Washington. And Obama. Naturally. Sigh.
