Perhaps I should try posting from my phone

Mar 29, 2012 06:47

Part of the reason I am not posting as much as I once did is how little free time I spend on the computer these days. However, I am keeping on top of my reading lj and email on the phone, and have even managed to leave some long comments, so I will give it a try.

I am spending the week at the mine headquarters, collecting samples for analysis. This involves putting a pallet of dril-core (rock they drill out of the ground to see what is down there) onto a table (love the hydraulic lift and the roller bars on the table that make this task possible) where I can see it, take photos of it if the core is old enough they don't already have some, take samples every 20 to 50 meters, record for each sample the depth along the hole (and which one), what type of rock it is, what minerals are present, any structural information (like folding), and anything else it will be good to know later. Repeat till done with the pallet and start the next one.

This process is tiring enough that at the end of the day I have only enough energy to read for a bit and do my yoga. I would love some cuddle time, but I am here alone, without a loved one. I wonder how much more energy I would have for this if the core shed was close enough to home to return there every night?

Oops, it is nearly 07:00, better put down he phone and go back to it. Two more days.
