I've just spoken with my boss, I am free to attend the Textile Forum the week of 8-13 September 2009. It sounds like much fun--I'll get to camp in an Iron-age style hut! Yay! Anyone want to meet me there? It sounds like a great opportunity for some major Textile geekage, and the things that Katrin has been describing in the way of stuff that ( Read more... )

Yup. Click on the link--it is aimed at both scholars and hobbists, to give them a place to hang out, do textile stuff, and share their research. Heck, come on over! :-)

I'd love to, but not this year... My apprentice will be crowned Queen of Northshield that weekend!

Congratulations! I bet you are in for an even busier than usual next six months. :-)

I'll keep you posted if I find any other cool textile stuff over here to tempt you with, eventually one will fall on the correct weekend for you...

Let me see: Google maps tells me it'll take about 2 hours to drive there and the Dutch railway site (www.ns.nl) says it'll take at least 2.5 from Hengelo Centraal to Eindhoven Centraal (plus bus time from the station)...

So you will meet me there?

Just on the weekend, or does the whole conference appeal? I understand that pre-reg isn't necessary for those who want to just pop in during the weekend, but it is for people wanting to do the whole thing and stay on site (and, officially, the deadline for that is over, but they still had a few spots available when I e-mailed them earlier in the week).

I'm not as much of a textile geek as you are ;)
I was thinking a day trip during the weekend-- Fri, Sat or Sunday.
What are your travel plans before and after?

I haven't made any yet. I'm waiting to see what my first paycheck looks like (sure, I know the numbers for gross pay, but after taxes will be different) so that I have an idea of budget, then I'll look into travel...
