Tuesday night reminded me of my Monday YOTOW volleyball nights, except it was WAY more competitive than I thought. It was mixed volleyball just like Monday nights and we had our fun, but I definitely felt inadequate in this league.
People kept on asking which position I played. It's not that I don't know the positions - you're a setter, a hitter, middle, shorts, back courts, etc. It's just... I never really fully committed to learning a postion really well. I enjoyed just switching around every once in awhile to utilise all my skills. It got really confusing when I had to switch around all the time so that everyone else could get into their respective positions.
Mind you, this was supposed to be social game. They're really serious about it and the girl asked me if I wanted to join their competitive team. She said I was good. I was thinking in my head, "are you serious? I seriously suck compared to the rest of you."
She said, "I can tell that you've been trained."
Me thinking: "Yah, year's ago... in elementary school"
I was thinking they must be really desperate to try to recruit me. I really love the game, but it's more for fun with a mild bit of competitiveness built in. Anyway, I digress. If the timing works, I'd love to play every week just like back at home. But, I really hope to find a more intermediate crowd that I can play with for fun.
On Wednesday, I was introduced to the pool. It was my first swimming lesson in Sydney. Geez, I know. I should have learned this years ago. I probably would have if I had continued to live downtown and go to the free annual lessons. But, last night I learned that it's never too late to learn something. It might be a bit more difficult, but if you put your mind to it, you really do learn.
I was lucky. It was a class of only two people. I learned to swim torpedo style and back stroke in one class. How good am I? =)
Okay, so it was probably only for a length of two metres, but everyone starts somewhere, right?
I need to practice kicking more for sure. I'm really looking forward to swimming ... and not swallowing water =P
And yes, I know I still need to update the month of December. It's coming this weekend, I hope. But... so is Lilian! Yay! Can't wait! Haven't seen her in months!
