Cleansing and Remembering

Sep 20, 2008 13:38

I've thus unpacked 5 packages out of the 13 that arrived yesterday morning.  I still have a long way to go.

The process of unpacking requires that I clean out my room quite a bit before I start putting things in their proper place.

I have at least set out a guideline of what should go in and what needs to be thrown out.

In the process of throwing things out, there are things I want to keep.  Things which I have kept since kindergarten, or at least grade 4 thinking that they will be useful again one day.  Things like math notes which I hope will become useful in teaching my child one day.  But, then, I think the curriculum is always changing and things like trigonometry... are things which I can probably Google one day in hopes of learning it again rather than keeping notes.

Then, you stumble across something, which you didn't realize you still had.  Something that will bring back a memory that you don't want to forget.  And so I pause to think, to remember.  A lot.

You know, I was thinking yesterday.  How great it would be to combine the two worlds that I lived in.

I miss a lot of things in Sydney.  I had missed a lot of things in Toronto.

They say the rule to getting rid of things is to get rid of things you haven't used in one year.  I've broken that rule ten times at least.

Andrea keeps asking me if I will ever consider going back to Sydney.

Had I not come to Sydney a year ago.  My path would have been so clear.

It's quite unclear now.  Where I will be.  Where I will go.  Where I will stay.

For now, I am just going day by day.

And it's not about forgetting.  It's about moving forward.

And I have to keep reminding myself that it's ok to not have everything figured out right now... even though the rest of the world seems to be flying by me.

Baby steps, right?  One day at a time.
