With the success of an event like Live Earth the Western world seems to really want to change and save the planet but I highly doubt that buying a Prius or your free-trade organically cotton will make more of a difference than say, being like the rural europeans and hanging your clothes out to dry. (It is said the dryer is the like, one of the top consumers of energy in a home.. of which electricity is currently 37% responsible for.. so it makes sense that if blow-drying is bad in electricity use, think about how much worse is a giant one that spins and runs for an hour.)
However, upon personally just doing so myself, I highly doubt a culture and society is willing to give up the energy-sucking convenience of electric dryers for say, half an hour in the sun hanging up various pieces of clothing. Admittedly, in a world where many are lazy, obese, comfort-starved (it's seriously hot and sweaty work to hang this stuff up) and convenience driven at any moment I do not think the Live Earth-shilling celebs will likely switch from their high-end dry-clean only fashions to the practices of simpler times. Don't get me started about all that private-plane and Hummer/limo driving business these eco-conscious do too.
Blarg. I'm going to go make some brownies and take a 5 minute shower. Depressing stuff.
Oh, my recent hiatus has been due largely to two trips to Europe in the past 2 months. I came back from Italy Saturday. Pictures soon!
Who else is excited about the Canada's Next Top Model Finale tonight? I'll be pissed if Tia wins.
P.P.S. Sicko is an excellent film. While kinda unrealistic of Canadian healthcare, it's nice to know we're just like the English and the French and even the Cubans in how.. it's just how things are. What the hell is this co-pay business? (But god, do I have the urge to move to France now... their society is awesome. Government paid nannies after you have kids to help do laundry? Yes, please!)
