I would call it a work getaway.
I would call it a good ruse to isolate the staff from the rest of the world. Gone with the distractions!
I would not call it a conference. Don't foresee much discussion going on. If there is, it's among the non-speakers.
I would not call it a retreat. I can't figure out where in the agenda is the retreat. If dinner = retreat, why can't we then retreat in Singapore?
I will be listening to the talks. Definitely. But I will also be spending a lot of time day-dreaming & planning for own workplan next year.
