Merry Christmas From A Nontheist

Dec 24, 2009 20:23

First off, Merry Christmas to whomever might be reading this! Second, to my lawyer, my doctor, and my accountant...Happy Hanukkah, boys! Third, yeah I'm a nontheist but I don't feel like referring to this holiday by some alt name such as "Festivus". Let's face it, the reason I'm getting this time off is because some bunch of Christians pushed for Christmas to be a federally recognized holiday and made it stick. Remember how back about 2004 or so, the really anal-retentive atheists got butthurt about some department stores deciding to use "Merry Christmas!" instead of "Happy Holidays!"? Well, you can't have it both ways. If you hate a Christian Holiday that much, volunteer to work on Dec. 25th with no extra pay instead of being with friends and family. Quit bitching about Christmas the same way the uber-Christos bitch about Halloween while hypocritically enjoying the benefits of somebody else's tradition. Saying "Festivus" or "Xmas" isn't a problem. The problem is when you show venom towards Christians and then wonder if you've got some really good gifts coming. That's just silly.

As I said, I'm a nontheist. But thanks, Christians! Thanks for making it a federal holiday so I can spend time with my friends and family tomorrow! Merry Christmas! Ho ho ho!

As a side note to any Christians reading this, I can understand things like nativity scenes to celebrate the birth of Christ but what's up with the pagan elements like the Christmas Tree? Or Santa Claus, who may be influenced by the the Nordic God Odin? How do you reconcile the Christian iconography with the heathen stuff? Just curious.

Anyway, in case I haven't said it enough...Merry Christmas!

Just bein' silly, people lol.
