This scene is a favorite of mine. She is so gorgeous and self-assured in her professional life when she instinctually knows "I am right and you are wrong/stupid"...I adore seeing her so gleeful and able to enjoy the 'little things' without stressing herself about 'everything else'. This is the Kara I wish we'd seen more of in S4/4.5...she's beautiful and content in the moment...a side of her we often only see when she's in the air, but which I always hoped she would find in daily life.
I wish we'd seen more of this Kara in S3 also. We got a little glimpse of this side in UB, and at the end of Dirty Hands (when she gives Selix her wings) and a hint in A Measure of Salvation (when she tells Lee he should've given that speech weeks ago), but otherwise she was just drowning in angst.
I know a lot of people used to say, at least in S1, that Kara was a bit of a Mary Sue because she was so good at everything, but of course she paid for it in spades in other aspects of her life and even professionally they put her through the wringer in S2 (taking her top gun status, having her shoot Lee, etc.) But I love this side of her.
Hee! I love this scene. I'll always remember my husband laughing with delight the first time we watched it together and she leaned forward to say "Your plan sucks." And I love that it's not just posturing or insubordination, she has actually tactically evaluated the situation, spotted the problem, and come up with a superior plan.
She doesn't improve her chances of being heard and accepted by raising her argument with this much attitude, but it is beautiful to watch nonetheless. The fact that she has zero tolerance for incompetence in her superior officers makes the respect and loyalty she displays on Galactica all the more striking. To quote from Pride & Prejudice: "Your good opinion is rarely bestowed, and therefore more worth the earning."
That's one of the many things that I love about Kara: when she complains that an idea is stupid or won't work, she always has an alternative suggestion. She isn't someone who just grouses for the hell of it, and often, she's right! Her plan is better and does work! I think she actually would've smoked em at war college if she'd gone, because she's a hell of a strategizer. And she certainly doesn't suffer fools gladly.
Furthermore, I'd say Kara's consistent offerings of better, workable alternative plans is key to her success and the precise reason that she maintains, and advances, her military career despite frequent insubordination towards arrogant, ignorant, superior assholes.
(And of course she is adorable and glorious as she outshines her superiors.)
She is so cute with that grin on her face, I swear.
Also, I love that look on Lee's face - I don't actually remember this scene (I need to rewatch), but he looks like he's trying to look studious and not smile, but the corner of his mouth is turned up juuuuust a little...
I have the feeling Lee did a lot of pretending not to be amused, around Kara.
