CHALLENGE 25 YEAR-END LIST
10 Things I Loved in 2010
spoilers for fringe, misfits, sherlock and the office

10. The Song Remains the Same

This was such a total trip. My first REAL experience with Led Zeppelin, and it was definitely a good one. Such an incredibly awesome concert, and then ridiculous little skits in between. Robert Plant being a medieval knight? Come on. And mobsters coming but never arriving... wherever they were going? Priceless. It's just so epic and yet so completely hilarious at the same time. Rarely achieved, and the only movie to make it onto my end of the year list this year.

9. Fringe

A carryover from before, but it has gained more and more of my love as time's gone on. The characters are AMAZING, and most of the actors had to play two sides of the same person this past season, and all of them were incredible. Walter, Olivia, Peter and Astrid are one of the best little family units on television. The storylines are wonderful, the characters are so well-written... so many more people should be watching this show, and if it gets cancelled I'll probably flip out or something.

8. Sherlock

Atonement gave me a really bad first impression of Benedict Cumberbatch, but I should have just realized that he was just a really good actor. This is such a perfect version of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. I'm such a sucker for bromances, and this is one of the best I've seen! I love them and I can't wait for this series to return.

7. Misfits

Gemma watched it, and people kept talking about this series and I kept seeing photos of this adorable curly haired boy and I finally gave in and watched the first episode. Talk about love at first sight. Another example of amazing character interaction. That's always what really gets me. Also, the homages to other movies and stuff they do are awesome. And Nathan? Perfection. Robert Sheehan could sit around and talk about quadratic equations and I'd still stare with that goofy smile on my face. Great, great series, another winner from England (which totally dominates my list, btw).

6. The Beatles

As if I hadn't heard of the Beatles before this year. Of course, I've heard of them, I loved their music and listened to them all the time, but I watched an Ed Sullivan special and just fell in love. They're goofy, they're adorable, they're all geniuses. What's not to love? Plus, Lennon/McCartney are one of the best/most tragic partnerships of all time.

5. FSU

My dear, dear school. It's my last year, and I've been feeling the love more than ever. The campus is beautiful, the classes are awesome, but let's be real here, this section is mostly dedicated to Seminole football. Yes, the team is so high-low it's ridiculous, but there will never be a more awesome feeling than being a Seminole student at a Seminole football game. You really feel like you're a part of something, and that feeling is something I'll miss for the rest of my life.

4. The Office

Another carryover, but I have to pledge my allegiance to this show. I adore it, and I think it's just as good now as it was in season 2 (not a very popular opinion). These characters, as silly as it may sound, are kinda like family to me. Watching seven seasons of this show, you know all of their little quirks, what they'd do in every situation, and they really become a big part of your life. I love it now and I always will, despite Michael's imminent departure. And this show has given me Jim Halpert, the perfect man. So much love.

3. My Novel (Pariah)

(from left to right: Seth Hudson, Perry Abram, Karl Abram, Steven Owens. My casting!)
(Robert Sheehan, Logan Lerman, Aaron Johnson, Hunter Parrish)

I've basically always wanted to be a writer, and I always pictured myself writing novels, but honestly, I never thought I'd be able to do it. Then, in March of this year, I just sat down and started to write. I thought to myself 'This is going to be a long one'. Then, I thought like, 30, 40 pages, maybe. I reached that and kept going. I wrote every single day. And today, it's 513 pages, and I'm still revising. It's about a group of boys becoming a famous band, and dealing with the consequences. Honestly, I've never been more proud of something I've created. The four boys in the band, they're a huge part of me, like they're really, really alive. I hope I can get it published one day, when it's perfect, of course, so I can share it with the world.

2. The Rolling Stones

Again, another legendary band that I knew about before, but really HIT ME this year. I came home from work one day and saw my mom watching the Ed Sullivan special, saw their performance of Satisfaction, and just fell in love. I listened to all their music, I watched Gimme Shelter over and over and over again. They can lift me up, whatever mood I'm in. They've inspired numerous poems and stories that I've written this year. They've been going since the 60's, and there's no end in sight. God, if only I could see them live, my live would (basically) be complete. I LOVE THEM.

1. Keith Richards

I know some people probably think he should be included with the Rolling Stones section, but honestly, he's become totally separate, for me. He's a complete standout. Watching him, in Gimme Shelter, one minute refusing to stop playing because of the violence until Mick has to scream at him, and then the next minute dropping his guitar because a giant naked woman is heading towards the singer... I don't know. I just fell for him, completely. I think he’s a goddamn genius, a brilliant writer and one of the best guitarists OF ALL TIME. He’s definitely the heart of the Stones. I think he’s a wonderfully strong person, he’s incredibly loyal and he’s absolutely hilarious. He's been through so much, he knew he went wrong in the past and he found ways to help himself. Reading his book, you could just tell what a genuinely good person he is. The book was like a window to his whole life, and I feel like I know him so well, now. He's just wonderful, he's a damn giant in the music industry and I hope I get to meet him one day so I can explain to him how inspirational he's been to me.
