1. I know that I thought of some meta a few days ago. I don't think it was anything groundbreaking, but I vaguely remember being excited by it and thinking it cemented a lot of things for me. And now I cannot remember for the life of me what it was.
2. *draws little hearts all over Warehouse 13* So many things to love this episode for! Pete's pep talk, then him remembering he came to talk her out of it. Claudia trying to go on a date, Artie trying to give Claudia advice and her horrified face when they started veering towards "the talk". "I eat food."
3. The kitty has discovered she can crawl under the covers to get to my legs at night *dabs blood off scratch on knee*
4. OK, so moving cross country. Anybody done it before? I think I have a vague plan worked out, but if anyone has any advice or spots a flaw in my logic, please tell me now while I still have 6 months to plan.
During my week off work around Christmas I'm going to start going through my stuff. I've already decided I'm not taking any furniture. As much as I actually really like some of the pieces I have, like my dresser and desk (both of which are much higher quality construction than a lot of what you buy nowadays, though neither are exactly pretty), but it's going to cost more to ship them than to buy new (used) furniture there. But there's lots of other stuff to sort through. I'm going to part with as much crap as I can stand to. My furniture and whatever I decide to leave will go into a garage sale sometime in the spring, possibly run by my mother after I leave, I don't know yet.
During Spring Break in March, I'll fly out (hopefully I'll be able to stay with one of my relatives) to start getting the lay of the land. Part of the week will be sigh seeing/getting to know the city, but I also plan to do some job hunting if possible. My mom's cousin has agreed to help me network, so I'm hoping I can get some interviews set up ahead of time to do while I'm there.
If I luck out and manage to secure a job while I'm there (and any potential employer will have to be OK with me not being able to start for a month and a half at least), then I'll know what my salary and therefor my budget will be, and my mom's cousin, who is a realtor, can help me start looking at apartments. Even if she finds a bunch of potentials between March and May, when I move, I'll want to see them before I sign leases, of course. So I'll probably need to stay at someone's house for at least a few days when I first move out. If I don't get a job and have to do that before I can start looking for an apartment then I might have to stay with someone for a few weeks.
OK, so shipping the stuff I am keeping. I'm going to use media mail through the USPS to send all of my books and movies, since that's the cheapest option. For the rest of my stuff I'll probably use FedEx. I'm wondering when I should send it though. Even if I get a job over spring break and will probably be able to get an apartment the first week I'm there, I'm still staying with someone else at first. I'm thinking it would be better to have my parents ship my stuff after I've signed a lease so they can send it directly to my new address. I haven't actually talked to them about that, but I don't think they'd have a problem with it. So I would just pack a couple pairs of jeans and shirts for a week or so (and underwear, obviously), my laptop, a few cat toys, etc, in a checked bag, take the cat as my carry on, and I would live off that until I find a place. And then I could furniture shop and get stuff in before I have moving boxes everywhere.
The other thing I just though of is that even though I am relocating presumably permanently, and therefore want all my stuff there eventually, there are certain things I don't need right away. For instance,I have several boxes of mementos from my childhood and various trips. Those are one of those thing I'm hoping to cut down when I go through stuff in December, but even then there's no reason I need those there right away. I could leave some stuff with my parents until I've started getting paychecks again and then have them sent.
