I read up on FFXII a bit today, and I learned about the battle system: Apparently, you have more or less full customization of what your characters can equip/learn, now as someone who really enjoys Customization in his games, this pleases me greatly. and yet, the fact that it pleases me is kinda vexing at the same time.
I mean, some people like the conformity of a game with black and white character classes: The Powerful Warrior in heavy metal armor, the Nimble Thief with Daggers and basically Tough Clothing, the Intelligent Mage with Staves and Robes, but I see this and I think "...no, this isn't good enough."
I guess this is why I like games like Final Fantasies II/V and Fable alot. I'm not really limited by the Restrictions of having to Build my character up around his/her class. like in FFV, I can level Both Knight and White Mage, and have sort of a Super-Paladin, rather then just being a Knight with "Holier" Equipment and a Limited Spell Selection; and it won't slow down my progress either.
I guess this is one of the many reasons why I'm not too into the MMORPG scene. yeah, those games are well known for the absurd level of customization, but once you bring two conflicting opinions into a Never-ending game, it gets ugly. I mean, you've got Elitists going "Pal/Mge? lol gimp. or u ned spermulons gautlet of slightly highr stats b4 u cna partee w/ us."
and then you've got people who take the game way too fucking seriously. like, "Wait a minute, you mean you're a Warrior and you're not using the Greataxe of Small Penises? Go fucking kill yourself!" and you have to sit back and asking yourself "...I'm paying 12.95 a month for THIS bullshit?"
and there's another reason: The game never ends, you're just paying and playing until you get sick or until they shut down the game's servers.
but it's not like I haven't tried to play an MMORPG before: for a time I was very into the idea of myself playing FFXI (one of the big reasons why I got my new computer) and I really liked the Customization. and I actually DID play an MMORPG, albeit it a rather unknown and free one.
It was called "Silkroad Online" maybe you've heard of it, maybe you haven't. but it was interesting enough, and I thought "Sure, why the hell not?" my first thoughts upon starting the game: "...Holy shit, there is alot of Lag in the Town Area." why? because the game lets you set up stands anywhere you want once you reach a certain level, and a metric ton of dickwads thought "Hey, I know! I'll setup my shop right next to the game's shops!" and then next thing you know, you've got a million and a half fucking morons that made the game lag so much for me that it would literally take like, 5 minutes just to get to the NPC Shops, who by the way, are the ones that give you the quests that you need to complete. needless to say, I haven't play Silkroad alot, only enough to get to level 10 or so.
wow, I think I just gave myself a headache with those last couple of paragraphs.
Basically, the Meat and Potatoes of my original topic was: "I like Full Customization because I'll never play the same game twice".
I really like making tl;dr entries that go nowhere. can you tell?
