Been looking for a treadmill on craigslist. Found a few promising ones. Haven't followed up on any of them. I'm torn, honestly. Part of me worries that it would be a waste of money, that I'll end up not using it.
Pros:
Can run whenever. Day. Night. Rain. Shine. Heat. Cold.
Only need to go as far as my basement.
If I don't manage to drag myself out of bed for a run in the morning before work, the treadmill will still be there in the evening when I get home and I can run then.
Treadmill running is easier on the joints.*
Easier to regulate your speed on a treadmill; you have to push a button to slow down, whereas it's harder to keep track of your pace running outside if you don't have a fancy (read: really expensive) gps watch to keep track for you.*
If I'm not in the mood to run really, having a treadmill is easier because I can run for a bit, and then stop. If I'm running outside and stop, I still have to walk back home from wherever I am when I stop. This is both a pro and a con. On the one hand, it's more motivation to run, because I know I can stop at any time. Starting is usually the hard part. On the other hand, running outside gives me more motivation to finish a run once I've started.
Cons:
Spending money.
Treadmill running makes you soft, and then you get sore/injured when you actually run on pavement.
I have a free gym I could go to with really good treadmills if I just got my lazy ass out of bed earlier in the morning instead of hitting snooze 4 times. *this sort of negates the starred items above; I have access to treadmills, just not whenever I want.
I dunno. Ever since I completed the couch to 5k program, I've been having trouble being consistent with my running. I could start the 8k or 10k programs on podrunner, but I was really hoping to work on getting my 5k time faster first. The change in time making it dark when I get up, dark when I get home and the colder weather isn't helping at all either. But I really need to get some more consistent training in.
