This week: The Banquet 400 presented by ConAgra Foods at Kansas Speedway
What does getting out of Talladega in one piece, Chase-wise, mean to you guys?
Shana Mayfield: I think after Sunday, it means a whole lot. That was one of the craziest races I've ever seen.
It was so funny. I had a full set of nails on, and I don't have one on, now -- I was a nervous wreck the whole time. Some of the weirdest things were happening, so to come out of there unscathed as pretty good.
Of course, we wanted a top-10 finish, or a top-five -- but I think Jeremy drove a smart race and he saw all the chaos in front of him and kind of laid back until right there at the end.
If that last caution hadn't have come out, we probably would have had a top 10, but a lot of the top contenders had a rough day and we closed the gap big-time in the points so I think to come out of there we were pretty lucky.
I think we've got all the boo-bullets behind us, now and we can go race for some good spots.
But I was a nervous wreck. I don't have one fingernail left on now -- I'll have to go buy a whole new set (laughing).(aww, I'll go with her)
OK, we need to get out to the great Midwest -- so what's your take in general on the greater Kansas City area, out there around Kansas Speedway?
Shana Mayfield: There's that one little place that we go to downtown, where you can walk around. There's a Cheesecake Factory and some good shopping, so we always go down there, because it's fun. (Shana and shopping go together)
About the dogs:
They weren't out in the infield whooping it up too much, were they?
Jeremy Mayfield: No. They wanted to go, but I had to hold 'em back.
Shana Mayfield: They were watching the race the whole time and they were a little stressed out, too.
Jeremy Mayfield: Izzy was pacing the floor, you said, wasn't she?

Shana Mayfield: Yeah, she was pacing the floor and Matt-Matt, she was a nervous wreck, and so we might just leave 'em at home. I don't know -- we haven't had a chance to talk about it.
Now, plane shopping -- that brings a whole new dimension to things. Is that just like car shopping?
Shana Mayfield: No! Believe me, don't you wish it could be that easy -- just trade one in and get another one. But it involves a lot more than that.
Well, help me out -- seems like you'd just be test flying and looking at 'em and comparing. I guess you don't kick the tires, but what do you do?
Shana Mayfield: Yeah, but we don't know what the hell we're looking at when we're test flying 'em (laughing).
Shana Mayfield: All I look at is the interior and I'm a typical woman. If I don't like the interior, I'm like, 'Nope, done.' (I'm with her on that...I want my planes interiors looking hot)
Jeremy says, 'You've got to look beyond that -- you can change that.'
So what's the Zoë potty update? How's that coming?
Shana and Jeremy Mayfield
JEREMY MAYFIELD
Shana Mayfield: (Laughing) She's getting better in the matter of 15 hours because you got on her pretty hard last night?
Jeremy Mayfield: We'll see. Watch her new routine, here.
Shana Mayfield: She's getting huge, here. I don't know what's up, but we came home from this weekend and I don't know. She's a big girl.
Jeremy Mayfield: Yeah, Zoë's become a giant miniature Bulldog.
I thought she was a mini?
Jeremy Mayfield: She is -- she's a giant mini. I think she's got into the Wheaties, or something. Either that, or she ate some Corn Pops or something, because she's blown up, big-time.
Shana Mayfield: She has blown up. She's a big old girl.
Jeremy Mayfield: She gained like, four inches in height and about 20 pounds.
Shana Mayfield: And she snores -- listen?
Zoë Mayfield: (Snoring).(lololol)
Jeremy Mayfield: She snores loud.
Shana Mayfield: Can you hear her?
I don't know -- her and Max make quite a pair. Finally, do you guys find that the Chase for the Nextel Cup brings more celebrities out to the racetracks -- or do you even have time to notice?
Jeremy Mayfield: I've noticed that, that there are more of them starting to show up. They're starting to come out of the woodwork, you know?
Shana Mayfield: There have been a lot.
Jeremy Mayfield: It's like the playoffs, you know -- everybody wants to show up for the playoffs.
Shana Mayfield: Yuck. I hadn't really seen that many. I don't really pay that much attention (yawning). (you go girl)
Jeremy Mayfield: I saw one the other day.
Shana Mayfield: Bo, from American Idol?
Jeremy Mayfield: Bo from American Idol was there.
Shana Mayfield: He saw the cheerleaders at the Monday Night Football game. We went to the Panthers' game the other night. (damnit, I wanted to go...and bad)
Jeremy Mayfield: But that wouldn't be at the racetrack.
You did? How did that come about?
Jeremy Mayfield: It went good, man.
Shana Mayfield: They invited him and Kasey (Kahne) so we got to go. It was really fun because we got to go on the field beforehand. It was really cool.
Jeremy Mayfield: I thought I was going to get to do the first kickoff, you know? (um, n0 J.)
I was gonna say, how's your spiral?
Shana Mayfield: I played a joke on him. I told him he was going to have to kick off with Jon Kasay -- that they were going to give him his cup and pants and jersey and all that -- and he just needed to buy his own cleats.
He was so pissed because he thought I was serious (laughing). He said, 'I'm not getting out there and making an ass of myself.' (I LOVE her)
Paybacks are hell, though -- so look out.
Shana Mayfield: Yeah, but it was so much fun because he's always playing jokes on everybody else so we thought we'd get him, pretty good. He was pretty pissed.
But we had a real good time and it was a good game.
Well, if you didn't wear the cleats you can always bring 'em back -- unless you wore 'em out practicing?
Jeremy Mayfield: Well, I just know that one day I'm going to be throwing out the first pitch again, or kicking the first field goal for a football game, and they're gonna want me.
I just don't want to give up racing right now.
Shana Mayfield: Oh, yeah (laughing).
Jeremy Mayfield: I think I'd be better suited to being a linebacker, anyway. I pride myself on having that rip that head off attitude, y'know?
Word Association: Kansas
