I'm enjoying your point of view..even if I don't always agree w/it! :)
I agree that what the politicians did was far worse with the "Not My Kids" attitude, and the majority of opinion that I've seen seems to "get it" so to speak.
However, there is a loud (oh god, are they loud) minority that just can't seem to grasp this, and are convinced that the character of Jack is "ruined", "out of character", "a monster", "evil", etc., and generally worse than said politicians!
I too haven't been getting it, until last night at work when I decided that most of these people would probably react the same way as the pols did w/ "Not My Kids"...which might be fine under normal circumstances, but not when the worlds ending. (There are probably some "normal" circumstances where it wouldn't be fine either,LOL!)
It does shed light on some of the negative reaction by some fans to Jacks actions in "Small Worlds", "Cyberwoman", and "Sleeper"--all involved a threat to the team or the world that need to be dealt with, but some people were "why's he so mean?"
Hello there! Welcome. Always happy to have voices who disagree, when they're willing to show their "faces" and be pleasant and polite about it.
How does anyone not get that Jack is a bastard? Did they not see the Empty Child? You have to set your alarm for volcano day, dude! Yes he wanted to be a better man for the Doctor, but I don't think the Time Agency hired and trained choir boys. He had the essential skills to be the go-to torture guy.
Thanks again for the comments. Now that it's over, I feel I can lay back a little. Others are still gonna fanwank the details, but unless RTD is lying through his teeth again, I ended up with no Ianto and a Jack who never schmooped out.
Time to start gearing up for the next season of House MD.
