Huzzah! I keep trying, as there is so little non-Janto fic, but... but you know, it's like Buffy/Angel in the Buffy fandom. No conflict. (In fact, in the TV series, there IS conflict... just not in the fic.) So the stories come across as smoocheroos and not a lot more. Have I just not read enough? But it's like eating sugar-free ice milk, and lots and lots of it.
Sorry-- I always offend when I try to talk about Janto, so I obviously don't get it. j
Well, I just posted a new Jack/Owen and I think there's plenty of conflict there.
In most of the fic, the conflict is taken away because the shippers won't admit what's right in front of their faces. IT AIN'T LOVE. And they'll do anything to deny that Jack is still Jack and that the "dabbling" doesn't make Ianto anything special. So they have to write their schmoopy-ooopy twaddle and pretend it actually reflects canon.
The only way to offend me when discussing J/I is to actually use the smushname and to pretend that Jack actually cares about Ianto MORE than the Doctor/Gwen/Owen/Tosh/Janet/Kathy Swanson/Soldier In A Bar, etc etc. I find that completely offensive.
I did mention it, but probably not loudly enough. :(
I do love the idea that two separate individuals, neither of whom is myself, saw the need for such a community. Let the backlash continue! This is hope for the future.
LOL. Well, apparently no_janto is too 'negative' in name for some of the people wanting variety or something so maybe a second comm is good, though I do sort of wonder at the need for two comms but anyway.
I've been thinking of starting one myself for a while but others got around to it first. I do think the fandom is at least looking for some variety, which really, truly, cannot be a bad thing.
Actually I have several fics that wouldn't apply, since I accept "canon" at least to the extent that fucking is going on, but that there's no way Jack is emotionally involved or particularly inclined to be faithful or even stay in the relationship very long. Even my Jack/Rhys story, which I'm insanely proud of takes off from that premise, not to mention my archetypical J/I fic, Clouds In My Coffee.
Oh, that's right. You don't ignore Ianto. You do write Jack/Ianto, but with a fanon that ignores/disagrees with parts of canon, mostly from Season 2, as well as with many fanons. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Why not start your own comm, then? You could call it torchwood_buft :)

Sorry, I noticed no one actually uses the smushname and wondered why. I don't think it's love... can't have love without conflict. :)
I tend to like schmoop only when it comes AFTER great conflict. Then I can believe in it. Otherwise it seems like desperate narcissic pretending. "Really.Really. We love each other. Of course, I'd never get up at 3 am to pick him up at the airport-- but watch! We'll kiss! And we'll say sweet things! Isn't that love? Yeah! Yeah! It's love! Just don't... you know, don't test it."
The idea of any kind of schmoop relationship btw J and I is completely ludicrous to me. Even accepting the possiblity that Ianto actually managed to con Jack in the first place *eye roll* there is just NOTHING THERE. To me that betrayal just leads Jack to ANY other member of Torchwood or anyone else he can get his hands on.
There's no chemistry onscreen to even support the ship. I honestly believe to my very soul that all the squeeeeeing is because "OMG!Canon!slash!" and the fandom is being sold (and in large part buying) a bill of goods.
I'm going to go write a Janto fic where they smoochy and pick out the curtains for their summer cottage, and then blackmail you into beta-ing it. *ducks and runs like hell*
Hah hah! The problem is that "picks out the curtains" isn't just a joke. Some people really do see and write them that way. Which is why my sandbox remains an armed fortress.
