Jon probably grew up staying up for Johnny's monologue the same way I did. The influence is definitely there. It's just a different world now.

I first heard of Johnny Carson when Miriam Margoyles made her first appearance on Wogan and told him that she'd already been on The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson three times. You had Johnny Carson, we had Wogan (who was the first to admit his TV success wasn't down to skill) - such different worlds then.

It's kind of heart-breaking for me to realize that a whole generation has grown up with Jay Leno as "their" tonight show host. BLECH!
