I remember seeing his "Greatest Album" being flogged on late night (VERY LATE NIGHT) TV when I was a kid and having no idea who he actually was.

He's one of those guys I remember listening to with my dad growing up - him, Johnny Cash and Marty Robbins, with a few of the other country greats in there as well but they're the memorable ones. RIP Slim.

Was shocked as you were by James Gandolfini - never saw The Sopranos and am not sure about others, but he was amazing in 8MM.
