I can't tell from your summation, but do you like Elementary or not?

I like Jonny Lee Miller's Sherlock, I ADORE Lucy Liu's Joan Watson. I'm kind of in love with Aidan Quinn's Gregson. I REALLY like a lot of what they are doing in attempting to draw from ACD/BBC Sherlock and House. The Sherlock/Joan chemistry is sort of a split difference between all three sources, but there's a lot of charm there.

The big problem is the actual mysteries which are your basic CBS procedural plots, with an occasional clever twist, but generally nothing you couldn't see coming through the Lincoln Tunnel at the 25 minute mark.

Part of me is so gun-shy after the House debacle that it's very hard to let myself feel fannish squeeee enthusiasm for anything, and the bog-standard plotting isn't helping.

Gambon had to basically play Scrooge, and therefore be woobified and redeemed. Richard E. Grant got to be more of an out and out baddie and chew up some furniture unabashedly. Also, I've LOVED Richard E. Grant a long time---back to Henry & June, plus of course WITHNAIL. Gambon has Top Gear, but Richard E. Grant was on QI.
