Armstrong Drops Fight Against Doping Charges

Lance's official statement.I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'm almost sure he did SOME doping, but I genuinely believe the situation is so prevalent that it would be virtually impossible impossible to find anyone from the top echelon who didn't. If they strip ALL the titles, then how do we know that ( Read more... )

You know, when I saw the news my first thought was "Oh, I wonder how karaokegal will take this!"
My personal, cynical opinion: they all cheat. He managed to do it more/better than the others by masking doping as drugs he needed as cancer survivor. Personally, I'm still mourning the pirate.

Marco had amazing panache! I'd say among other things that Lance is still playing the media brilliantly. The people most likely to be on his side know absolutely nothing about cycling as a sport, but completely frame the issue as All-American Boy vs Cheese-Eating Surrender Monkeys does not speak well of their case.

Oh the whole thing is ridiculous and now YET AGAIN our papers are full of That Man ignoring the fact that there's a Brit doing rather brilliantly in the Vuelta *sighs*

Incidentally I saw a list of all the 2nd place guys after Lance and the only one who hasn't been banned/fined/investigated/all three is Joseba Beloki (who was named in Operation Puerto I think but cleared... or wasn't actually named in the end I forget). I think he'd win about 3 or 4 if they really do strip Lance and skip all the other dopers.

I feel your pain, sweetie! I don't think we're even getting Vuelta coverage here. The only bike racing that's turning up right now is
the US Pro Challenge in Colorado. It is sort of nice to see the young American riders being more themselves than they seem to in the European races, but we SHOULD be getting the Vuelta and it totally sucks that we're not.
