Diefenbaker! I loved this show, watching all the episodes when they aired, but never got into the fandom, despite writing a bunch of Jack/Benton fics.

I always loved the dynamics between Ray V, his family and Benny. :)

I loved your Jack/Benton drabbles. They brought a believable sweet side of Jack.

Except of course if the change is one you want (teaboy death, for example).

But yes, I'd gathered that about you. I've never fully understood the utter hatred some people in fandom have for change, though. Isn't it better for a show to change than be cancelled if the changes aren't bad? I mean if MASH had only had however many years with Trapper, there's some classic TV that would never have been made. But it does depend on the show overall.

Or look at soaps. They thrive on casting changes and I've often (not, to be fair, always) liked the replacements as well or better.

On topic, I never really liked RayK much, don't see what the fuss is about CKR, didn't watch a lot of the third season.

I did like Paul Gross in the shortlived TV series Eastwick better than on this show.

I knew soap opera issue was going to come up. And the Whining Welshman
one. :)

I think for me, it just comes down to whatever point I imprint on a show or character. I didn't get into Dynasty until Stephen had become Jack Coleman and Joan Collins had shown up in that fabulous hat. Once Michael Nader showed up as Dex, THAT was my Dynasty, and I had some great years with them. By the time the Moldavian Massacre happened, I was already losing interest because too many people had come and gone.

Maybe I was lucky in a weird way that I came to Edge of Night so close to the end. It died with all my characters still there.

I love Paul Gross in Slings and Arrows. I actually do love him as Fraser. I just hate his quotes about the Ray switch, and some coarse behavior in the outtakes, which the RayK folks like to use as "proof" of their ship.

To be fair, if (general) you're into soaps, you know what you're getting so you're more prepared for it than with other genres.

That makes sense to an extent. I kind of remember those years better.

Possibly, yes. I never saw Edge Of Night but I've heard so many good things about it.

I like Fraser, I just liked him better as the devil, what can I say? I like bad boys ;)

Well his quotes are probably because he was a producer and wanted to make it clear he was okay with it and it's not really his fault that the shippers do that - after all, Doctor/Jack fans squeed madly at the Comic Con kiss and that was just as much fanservice really.

I think the John/David kiss was more like genuine fan-boying on John's part, whereas the John/Gareth stuff was more likely to be contrived fanservice. My Squeeee in that case was more for my Tin Hatty John/David RPS shipping than my perfectly rational, completely canon-compliant Jack/Doctor shipping. *g ( ... )

I agree with you on the cast change thing. Even though I've watched the first two seasons of Due South, I haven't watched the others because I don't want to hate them.

THANK YOU! FWIW, it's only one additional season, but if you love the first two, it's just not worth it. Just pretend it ended after Season 2.

Fangirls=/=rational thought. And I do ship war hard and nasty. However, it's a "dead" war, and the Chelsea Drugstore is all about THE LOVE. (Unless someone actually pisses me off...Hardy Fuck Yous are mostly reserved for political enemies.)

I remember watching the first few eps that I saw of Slings and Arrows being literally gobsmacked that the same actor could actually be playing messed up, drunken, cursing Geoffrey, so well did he commit himself to playing Fraser.

You're never too old for OMG!CUTEDOGGYWOLFWANT.

I wrote a Come As You Aren't first-time Fraser/RayK fic, but I can't imagine you finding it hot, as it was me and therefore nearly gen. I would say it was rustydog who you shared the doggie love with, as she was watching it along with me, but I wouldn't call her a hardcore J/I fan.

I think it was your story. And I'm not calling you J/I (not that there's anything wrong with that, as long as they see it exactly the way I do) at all. There were a few separate people involved. Your story was awesome in its own right...it probably wouldn't work for me now, having seen the show and come to the feelings that I did.

At least I know I'm not nuts (well, I might be) and that the story actually exists.

I'm J/I-ish, in that I don't hate it like you do. (Mind you, I don't think anybody hates it like you do...:D) I even wrote a ridiculously fluffy J/I fic once. I'd link it here, but I'm afraid your journal would go up in flames. But I'm really not a fan of anything at all Torchwood-related, and prefer to treat the entire concept as an RTD-specific AU.

I saw a whole lot of love between Fraser and RayV, but to me it looked all strictly platonic. I didn't see as close a relationship between Fraser and RayK, but what I did see struck me as closer to slashy than the RayV relationship. Different strokes, right?

I did have half of an epic Fraser/RayV/RayK fic written before RayWars II: Electric Boogaloo erupted and I lost my taste for the fandom.

*takes a bow*

Although honestly? I'm kind of burned out on the whole thing. I basically consider the war won. Now I just want my Jack/Doctor reunion with Jack written by Moff.

As much as I HATE the phrase "demi-sexual," I could almost see Fraser being that way, so it's hard for me to say, well RayV has the emotion, but RayK has the sex, and if that's not what you're trying to say I apologize. I am glad that you were part of the chain that got me to the show, since I do adore those first two seasons.

I didn't realize there were two phases of the ship-war, so once again, I'm also glad that I came to fandom after the show was over and most of it had transpired. (That applies to Buffy as well, and makes me grateful that I was NEVER into X-Files.)
