I watched the first few eps of CSI: LV when it debuted, went "meh" and subsequently ignored it and the clones for years. Have lately watched a few recent eps because it's on after something else I like, and it's the first time in my life I've *ever* liked Ted Danson. (Didn't see Fishburne at all. Whatever.)
Cut to...five or six years ago. I was in an email relationship with a gal who was passionate about CSI: Miami, and I started watching reruns of the early seasons in no particular order. (So far back, they hadn't killed off Speedle.) I got caught up in watching new eps for a few seasons, but kinda lost interest when Kyle Harmon inexplicably disappeared. I cougared the heck out of that kid!
It's nice to see a show set more or less in my neck of the woods, although I roll my eyes sometimes. How come the murder is always in an upscale suburb full of swimsuit models and twenty-something hardbodies? Where are the little old retirees from Long Island? It's never grannies in schmatta or old farts in shorts with dark socks. What, are they immune to crime?
I have no memory of the eps you referenced, but over all, I like the way the team has evolved, with the exception of the Calleigh-Delko plotline, which squicked me big-time. Maybe I'm just jealous. I think Adam Rodriguez is hot stuff. I've also got a girl-crush on Eve LaRue. I don't miss Eddie Cibrian one bit.
I should probably admit that I like David Caruso. Always have, clear back to Thief of Hearts and First Blood. I enjoyed him in NYPD Blue, and that thing he did after it, something about a US district attorney? Came and went fast, whatever it was. A friend of mine, who's NOT a DC fan, says he always plays the same character, like a lobotomized robot. Oh-kay...meanwhile, I'd like to see him opposite William H. Macy as brothers. I think that could be amazing.
CSI: NY is the one I've watched the least. Maybe 10 eps total; it just doesn't wow me. Gary Sinese is okay, I don't really know the rest of the cast. As far as New York cop shows go, the only one I'm watching these days is Blue Bloods. Started watching for Tom Selleck, kept watching 'cause it's that good.
Weirdly, even though I've never genuinely liked David Caruso in anything, I did sort of model a character in my last (published) novel after him, although by the time of actual publication I realized he was much more of a William H Macy than a David Caruso.
I really HATE self-righteousness as a character trait and I feel that the Horatio Cane character totally exudes it in a way that neither Mac Taylor or Grissom does/did. In fact, it's becoming a bit of a problem over on NCIS as well. Luckily I still like the rest of the team enough that I can put up with it from Gibbs, although I would seriously like for him to get a head-smack now and again. It's a pity that they recently killed off the one character who still have the ability to do it.
