Notes on Sherlock-The Hounds of Baskerville.

1. Not every story needs 90 minutes to be told.
This one sure as hell didn't. The padding was both obvious and egregious.

Spoilers and one reference to incest-fic. Possibly unpopular opinions. )

Not a hard-core ship, but definitely something I could see, especially the way Gatiss and BC play it. (Not so much with Fry/Downey, simply because...it was all too cutesy.) In my old age, I've become someone who really shies away from the "obvious" pairings, especially slash, especially when the writers are clearly playing those games with the fangirls.

Hee, I even thought they may have turned the slash meter up a bit high for me, although Sherlock sucking up to John and then reverting back to insulting him almost immediately was awesome (and also one of my favourite Holmes quotes). The drugging was also pure H/W, and just when I was all 'awww' (in a slightly nauseated way, granted) about the coffee. Nope, still counts as drugging in my book.

Russell Tovey's ears were intensely distracting. Sorry.

I don't care, it was Lestrade! With bad fake tan! When I saw him talking with S and J outside, for a moment I was all 'wait, who are these other people again?' *g*

Edit: beverages

For me it wasn't the ears so much as he being all "Russell Tovey!"
I do love him, but like I said, he needs to get another kind of part.

I'm glad we're enjoying the show on mostly the same wavelength! YAY Lestrade. Hopefully he gets something REAL to do in the next episode.

I should probably write something on this myself, but for Sherlock I am more or less in agreeement. I even find sex a dubious concept (could happen, Sherlock will however remain for the most part utterly indifferent).

With H/W I think we saw the actual relationship pretty much identically, but put different spins on the probable outcome. I had hope for Happily Ever After whereas you didn't.

But with S/J there is no Happily Ever After.John will suffer, and Sherlock will torment him, because that's them. Wilson had a nasty edge, which made him at least some kind of emotional/intellectual match for House, whereas John is more or less genuinely nice. And Sherlock is even further left along the intellectual spectrum - at least House had a relationship once, not to mention the multiple 'working girls', for whom he did show a warped yet genuine affection. Not seeing it. It's just not gonna happen. (She says now, tempting fate...) ;)

I don't care what part Lestrade plays in the episode, he's awesome :D

The ep dragged a bit for me. I couldn't relate at all to Russell Tovey's character and personally didn't care about him at all.

Like Daas, I also have a hard time picturing the boys as a romantic couple, though I do ship them, if that makes sense at all lol

It does make sense. I wish more of the fangirls saw it that way. There's definitely something there, but if you're seeing schmoop, I guarantee you're doing it wrong.

Benedict Cumberbatch did play Hugh Laurie's son on Fortysomething, leading this very obvious joke... ahem...

Clearly Sherlock picked up the lesson that it's perfectly okay and natural to drug your best friend from his dad House.

WOW! I saw Fortysomething, or at least forced my self to sit through it once in the name of seeing everything Hugh's ever been in. Aside from Peter Capaldi and the Fry/Laurie bits, it was excruciating. I can't believe that BC playing one of the kids. TOO FUNNY. Fandom connections for Sherlock just keep on rolling.

Man, HL makes BC looks short and it's not that BC is short, it's just that HL is a very tall man who in turn is dwarfed by Stephen Fry who in turned in dwarfed by Stephen Merchant.

It's kinda amusing when you don't realize how tall a guy is because he's right next to a taller man and you downgrade his height in your mind, but away from the taller man you realize he's a beanpole and you've had to crane back your neck to make eye contact.
