I had to look up tinking, and I'm glad I did. I always love onomatopoeia. And I knit a jumper for my firstborn, because I wanted to be a proper mum.
I don't know how you came up with the idea - it's quite some distance from the prompt!

Well, tinking strikes me as pretty close to unraveling. In fact, the big knitting blog is called Ravelry. As soon as I saw the prompt, I was pretty sure knitting was going to be involved. I hear a lot about knitting because of hubby.

It was kind of stretch for me and I might have over-done the metaphor a smidge. Luckily my beta pulled me way back from the first draft which was as subtle as a moose's erection.

as subtle as
My problem seems to be that I had never seen unravel used in its literal (i.e., non-metaphorical) sense. And I've never seen a moose either :).

THANKS! Writing "lighter" Gwen/Rhys is difficult for me as I think they're a classic mismatch, even though neither of them wants to admit it.

Rhys suspected that in Gwen’s hands those needles and fluffy pink yarn could be just as lethal as Torchwood’s dark secrets.

Awesome. And true. :) At first I expected Gwen to be knitting so she could make her baby something that at least *wasn't* pink. But I could totally see Gwen wanting to try to do some traditional things as a mum -- when she does anything, she commits.

I too had to look up tinking, and it turns out I have done it a LOT without knowing the name!

ETA I love that you used an icon of Jack's bum for a drabble about knitting for a baby. *g*

UH...honey....that's Rhys' bum. :) This *points to icon* is Jack's bum. This was my attempt to do a Gwen/Rhys fic with virtually no Jack in it at all. And let me tell ya, it wasn't easy.

Tinking is a phrase I hear often from Hubby when he's having issues. In fact, this drabble was very much inspired by his knitting adventures.

Thanks for commenting. It's not a pairing I write often so I'm glad this worked for you.

Whoops, I need to work on my arse identification skills! Well, the icon makes more sense now and I salute your effort and your success -- I'm sure it wasn't easy! :)

Well, I have to admit that I tink regularly but never knew that's what it was called! *g*

Love this. It strikes me as very much the sort of thing Gwen would have done when she was trying to put Torchwood behind her, and of course the metaphor is great. :-)

I guess I hear hubby say it so much that I thought it was more prevalent term, at least among knitters.

Thanks so much. I'm really glad you liked the story and it seemed to fit into the canon.

It may well be a prevalent term - I don't really talk to that many knitters! Mainly, it's patterns I look at online, rather than blogs or whatever. Though until I went online I never knew the term 'frog' either, but that seems a bit more of a generic term than 'tink'.
