House babble for After Hours

Includes casting spoilers, in case you've been living under a twitter-free rock today. Also includes me being very stroppy about this garbage. Read at your own risk.

@@@@@

I missed two episodes while I was on vacation and TIVO seems to have made an editorial decision that they weren’t worth recording. Thanks to evila_elf for bringing me up to speed and then watching the squick-a-thon with me.

Toss-up as to which was more disgusting, House digging into his leg or Taub getting a lap-dance. I’m just as glad I didn’t see the sex itself, but am I actually supposed to believe that these two were screwing without protection? Or that she’d WANT to keep the baby? YUCK YUCK YUCK.

The other element of grossness was the massive amounts of Out of Character behavior being thrown around.

I found the whole Chase pushing 13 to the floor thing incredibly OOC and badly choreographed to boot. I refuse to believe he couldn’t find another way to get her out of the way. It just looked and felt wrong.

It should be noted that in spite of bad writing, Jesse Spencer was easily the best actor of the episode and looks so goddamned hot it’s insane. And I’ll say it again, there’s definite 13/Chase chemistry. (Sorry, CF.) It’s the ONLY relationship I’ve ever found it possible to believe Olivia in, so I really have to assume it’s Jesse’s acting. If the show was capable of portraying a genuine friendship, particularly one between a man and a woman, I’d like to see them pursue that.

Yes, by the way, I’ve come to believe that Wilson was actually telling the truth when he said they were never friends. Since at least season three, I’ve said that H/W fluff is a lie. Now I think that even the early veneer of friendship was too. A mutual lie, to cover up what was really going on, but still a lie.

For this I blame the writers and the fluff-bunnies. It’s like the writers had the chance to either go all the way with H/W OR tell the shippers to take a hike. But they’ve never had the guts to do one or the other. Hence the crappy fan-service mixed with undermining the slash at the same time.

I realize that four years is a long time to mourn the dynamic of the first two years, but I do.

Everything that violates THAT H/W is illegitimate to me.

So this week, we’re back to bait and switch, but again, completely out of character. On what planet would Wilson NOT go running when House called? (Possible exception if he was with a wife or girlfriend, which did not appear to be the case here.) BUT having established that for whatever reason Wilson didn’t come and that Cuddy did….and then foisting the pukesome Rachel stuff….and are they really so unimaginative on this show that Taub’s ex-wife and Cuddy’s kid (and the patient from the Pilot) all have the same name? After that…then they pull out the fanservice and basically have Wilson go back to his passive-aggressive self and be all jealous of House/Cuddy and basically offer to hold House’s dick while he pees, which I’m sure has already led to countless Hurt/Comfort bathroom sex fics, but it’s still fucking bait and switch bull-shit.

Side thought…I know they can’t actually do OT3 for House/Wilson/Cuddy any more than they can do an honest gay relationship or an honest het one for that matter, but it’s one of the few ways the thing could have possibly been resolved without the need to screw over all the fan-bases while attempting to stroke them at the same time.

I think it could have been plausible up to the 3rd season, but nothing is plausible after that because really EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER was assassinated in one way or another and if it didn’t happen in season 4, then it happened in 5.

ANYWAY….Look, Hugh, I know you want that Emmy. But this is NOT the way to do it. You’re a great actor, but you were ACTING so damn hard it was almost unwatchable. I realize the paradox is that when you make it look effortless, no one notices, but honey….honey….just no. Your best moments were when you communicated House’s suffering with a look and no extra make-up.

Speaking of make-up, is it me or is this one of the ugliest episodes ever filmed for a show that used to be very good-looking. Again, seasons 1 and 2…everybody looked so damn good…House was in pain. House was fucked up. But he looked awesome and everyone around him did too. And you could see what was going on.

Please please please tell me that Wilson is NOT going to force House back into rehab OR that we’re going to have an “instant detox.” I want my drug-addicted House. IF they go back down that road, I’ll be very unhappy.

I don’t know what Lisa E. leaving means for the show. I hate the way House/Cuddy was handled, but I still think that the original House/Cuddy dynamic is as important to the show as House/Wilson. (And the original FCC.)

In fact….considering how badly things have unraveled at this point, why not just kill the thing now and do what they should have done either at the end of the 2nd season or at the end of MLC?

And speaking of grossness and stupidity and out of character and have the writers even watched the show…..

HOUSE TRUSTS CUDDY TO KEEP THE DOCTOR FROM CUTTNG TOO MUCH?

Really? She’s not a surgeon or a diagnostician. How would she know what too much is?

Is this yet another attempt to redeem Cuddy’s part in the infarction surgery without actually mentioning it?

One more week of this torture.

Give me strength!
