I cried when Jeff phoned and told me. My hunch is that she'll end up with Mike Todd. According to all, he was her one true love. But she'll still have the boys for company!

I'm inclined to agree. I think in some ways Richard was a replacement Mike. She always vacillated between the "nice guys" like Wilson, Fisher, Warner and the more hard-drinking, tough guys: Todd, Burton and maybe Fortensky.

Aside from her other crowns, Miss Taylor is certainly the Patron Saint of Fag Hags. (An order I'm more than happy to associate myself with.)

I love the idea of her being the Patron Saint of the Fag Hags.
Is there a fag_hag lj community?
Or at least anyone out there able to make a nice "I'm a fag hag and proud of it" userpic?

I have mixed feelings about who Taylor would have preferred to be with so I'll pass on the question. Just wanted to say that with a lifetime of rocky health issues, I was still surprised and saddened by her passing. She was a fighter.

She was that! Considering how much she went through, one can definitely wish her a peaceful afterlife.

I always shipped her with Burton. :P

I really said "awwww" when I heard the news. As Streisand nicely put, this marks the end of an era.

Now I look at today's stars...LOL I dunno. Do you see anyone like her?

Whatever else you can stay about the studio system, it was very good at taking the raw material making the great stars. Liz might have hated MGM, but her time there made her the star she was.

I remember reading a book about them one summer when I was up at camp. I don't know if I shipped, but it's such a compelling story. More tragic in retrospect as we realize the depth of Burton's self-destructive drive.

Yeah, apparently studio system was god in taht sense even though there was less freedom.

Why are all the great actors alcoholics? Lee Marvin is another example.

The question is does the profession attract people with demons or does it bring them out in people who might not have been quite so messed up otherwise?

Not even close. I'll bitch-slap anyone who says Natalie Portman.

Definitely going with Mike Todd (who I'm named after!). Mike gave her a big hug and said "welcome home."

Very sad news -- and what a tremendous loss for all of us :-(

Wow! Named after one of the great showman of all time! I think Mike was certainly the first great love of her life and she was always looking for another like him.
