My fave 'street' musician is a guy called Ed Alleyne-Johnson who comes from Liverpool (originally not that far away from me) and sells his cds when he is out busking (they're also on Amazon and some other places). He plays a 5 string electric violin with a loop and effects pedal to create some pretty complex music as you watch and has done some great cover versions as well as original tracks. He's a lovely guy.
Back when I still lived in SF, I spent half an hour one day sitting in the Powell station, utterly enchanted, as I listened to a string quartet from the Conservatory.
