It Never Rains In Southern California...

Dec 01, 2007 01:11

Guess what? It's been raining in Southern California... but I feel pretty upbeat. At least until I start hammering together a couple of bookcases this weekend, so I thought I should type something up while I still have the full use of my hands and fingers.

A couple of weeks ago, we marked the birthday of some minor character.

Since then, it has seemingly been one continuous celebration after another (although in reality it was just a series of pleasant coincidences)...

Began things with a generous Italian dinner courtesy of an old classmate of mine (who has been kind enough to put up with me ever since junior high).

Then Lord_Darkseid decided to take the cross-country flight over to my neck of the woods and hang out with me for half a day in Los Angeles (although he had actually no idea that there was a birthday going on). Ended up dropping a couple of presents on him instead, oddly enough.

Opened up the weekend with a Friday night concert at the world-famous Troubadour featuring Jane Carrey, Kelley James (a very entertaining performer live, especially when he performs rock covers of pop songs and talks about his MySpace stalker tendencies) and YouTube phenomenon Marié Digby as the headliner.

Followed that up with a couple days in Las Vegas (including a stay in a luxury suite from Mandalay Bay's theHOTEL, some decent sight-seeing, and even catching a couple of expensive shows) as well as a half-day at Zion National Park.

And before I realize that I'm missing an entire week of work, it's already Thanksgiving, with a couple of family gatherings and full-course turkey dinners. Also picked up a new MP3 player plus some DVD sets for myself during Black Friday madness. (Really need to grab a stand-alone DIVX player too someday, but I'm sure that normal retail stores won't carry those any more.)

Of course, looking back on everything now, nothing I did during that week and a half was particularly spectacular or anything like that. But considering that I'm normally the quiet type of person who doesn't go out much (not to mention that I haven't taken a real vacation in nearly 2 years), that time spent wasn't too shabby. (I am looking forward to pursuing an extended international getaway next year, though.)

Work eventually started sneaking back into the schedule, and catching up on my back-log there hasn't afforded me any time to start working on this post up until now.

But now, finally, I'm done posting everything up. And now the good times just keep on rolling after receiving recent word from good buddies LonelyDriver and Strypgia.

Enjoy the holidays, everyone.
