Congradulations for finally coming to this realization. I remember about three years ago when I was in your position. I slacked off in highschool - skipped classes, never did homework, etc, etc, I was a horrible student for the first three years. It wasn't until I experienced something like what you recently experierenced in my grade 12 year - third day of my placement, about 10am, I was sitting in the Police station working with the officers... that was my realization moment. I can still remember it like it was yesterday. You will always remember that moment.
For those who think you can't do it, allow that to be one of the things that will serve as motivation. Prove them wrong and when you do you will feel great because not only have your proved your critics wrong, you achieved your goals and you know that the work paid off.
The next five years will be tough, they may be hell, but just remember this... when you are done and you walk into your very own classroom for the first time and begin teaching your first lesson, an amazing feeling will come over you. Not only will all the work and sarcrifice have paid off but you will be living your dream.
I am happy for you Kara. For finally coming to this realization. For having the drive, ambition and attitude to begin what may be one of the hardest times in your life. Work hard, do your school work, attend class and never give up. While you are working your ass off, don't forget to have fun. When you enter University you will be working hard but those years have the potential to be some of the best years of your life.
So finally, work hard, kick ass and prove them wrong. Show everyone who doubts you that you can do it and that you WILL do it.
Mallory
PS ... just don't forget to have fun in the process... good luck Kara
