Dear Camille: 20 Weeks

Aug 05, 2013 17:11

Dear Camille,

We stopped by A Moment in Time on Friday afternoon for an ultrasound session with Jennifer, and you are for sure a girl!

I ate a snow cone on the way to the appointment, hoping that the cold and sugar would give you a little jolt and make you extra-active. I don't know if it was the snow cone or what, but you were definitely awake in there! It was fun doing a non-medical ultrasound, because we just got to hang out and watch you swim for 10-15 minutes or so. You looked pretty happy and comfy. We got some good profile shots of your whole cute little roly poly body, and then some close-ups of face, body, arms, legs, feet (looooove the baby feet), and finally your little booty. I, of course, had no idea what we were looking at, but Jennifer pointed out not only the conspicuous absence of little boy parts, but the actual confirmed presence of little girl parts. (Aidan was unfortunately a little bummed out when his remaining long shot 20% hopes of a little brother were dashed. Your dad was sitting next to him, though, and cheered him up, and by the time the evening rolled around, he was claiming that it was really a little sister that he wanted anyway.) We got a dvd of the whole ultrasound session, a CD of images, and some nice new print-outs for the refrigerator. Jennifer turned on the 3D imaging for a couple of sneak-preview shots, but we couldn't see your face very well yet. We'll go back at around 30 weeks for a 3D session to hopefully get an idea of what you look like. We'll have to just imagine that you're wearing a little bow.

You were so very well behaved for this photo shoot. I sincerely appreciate your cooperation and I will buy you something shiny and pretty to wear when you come home. Mommy is so proud. You even gave us a little wave right at the very end of the session before Jennifer stopped recording.

Aidan: "She likes me!"
Us: "Kid, you are SO gonna be her hero."

Yesterday your dad was cleaning out the garage, and Aidan was out there with him. I was inside doing a ridiculous amount of laundry and praising the sweet Lord for air conditioning. Risking heatstroke, I went outside into the garage for a few minutes to check on the boys, and I asked how they were doing. Aidan said, "Fine! How is Camille?" I told him that you had been moving a lot for the past few minutes. Your dad asked if you were moving strong enough for them to feel yet. I wasn't sure. It seemed like it might be a bit early to be able to feel you from outside the belly, but we gave it a shot. We went back inside and I lay down, and we all talked to you and wiggled the belly bump around to get you riled up, and you threw an elbow or something RIGHT against your dad's hand. I asked if he felt that, and he said, "Right there?" pressing right where you had moved. I am convinced that he really did feel you! That was a pretty big thump, and he was at the right place at the right time. Even though you did a lot more wiggling after that, Aidan wasn't able to feel anything this time. I told him it won't be long before we can not only feel you, but SEE you moving, and he will definitely get another chance to try.

I totally do not remember being able to feel Aidan move from the outside this early. I also don't remember Aidan moving this much at 20 weeks. I don't know if this is a second-pregnancy thing, or if you are just going to absolutely kill me by the time 40 weeks rolls around, but you are one busy little lady.

At 20 weeks now, you are halfway done. You are the size of a banana. (I swear, these fruit comparisons. As if "banana" is a standard unit of measure.) You are growing hair and nails. According to the various guidelines, I have "probably gained about 10 pounds". According to my scale, more like 15. (SIGH.) Not looking forward to weighing in at my doctor visit this Friday. Dr. Groves probably won't fuss, but I will enter my official updated weight into my pregnancy app, and it will warn me that my weight gain is "excessive", and I will feel bad about myself and curse my phone and its tactless and judgemental technology, and then I will go consume a large milkshake, because they are delicious.

A slight question has recently arisen regarding your middle name. Your dad likes Rose, which I also like, but I feel like you need more than just one syllable in your middle name, since it's immediately followed by the one-syllable Wolfe. Aidan and I still vote Alayne. Formal negotiations have not been conducted just yet, so no decision has been reached. Until this is settled and we know if you are CAW or CRW, no monogrammed items will be purchased. Pink stuff is a go, though! We will be in New Orleans this weekend to take Aidan to the Aquarium and the Insectarium. I wonder if we can squeeze in a stop at Babies-R-Us on the way!

Love,
Mommy
